Gibbs Racing uses own engines

Joe Gibbs Racing used its engines in the all-star race as opposed to the engines it receives from Toyota Racing Development. The team plans to go back to TRD motors for the Coca-Cola 600. Since the all-star race is a non-points race, it provides teams a chance to test equipment without fear that a failure will hurt them in the points.

ok enough with this Sugarmingle thing. You shaould change your name to "mingle_lover"
This explains why all the Toyo performances were down.I was in a private race pool and all my picks were Dodge and Chevy's....thank you Mr Gibbs. You helped me a lot.

Maybe the tin/alum cans Japanese engines are made of started rusting/corroding. See Joe -- money doesn't buy everything.

May 19, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Sadly, those "tin/alum cans" engines have helped Toyos become #1 Internationally, knocking GM out of that spot....guess they do not rust or corrode all that much.

May 19, 2008  10:07 AM ET

No wonder they all sucked!! Gibbs better stick with the stuff Toyo gives them and stop messing around with their own junk.

Talk about conspiracy theories.....my neighbor (who is somewhat connected) insists that the fix is in this year to pay back Toyota for their investments in Nascar. Sounds silly to me. I have listened for years from folks that insist playoffs are fixed to raise $$. Why the hell was Kyle's car so dominant Saturday in what was a boring All Star race?

May 19, 2008  01:29 PM ET

but the domination did not last. None of the JGR drivers had a hot finish.

May 19, 2008  01:36 PM ET

Experimental engine...rocker arm? I wont pretend to know that part. Its fixed....next race winner Tony, its his Toyota's turn....lol

May 19, 2008  03:09 PM ET

jackman; Right about the next winner, wrong about the conspiracy.

May 19, 2008  04:20 PM ET

You are probably right Jkindle......maybe I need a new neighbor.

Where was Jr? Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Jr. is not hungry. I still say that Hendrick made a huge mistake choosing Jr over Busch. I won't go into opinion - just look at their racing record over the past 2 - 3 years and see who was the more successful driver.

May 19, 2008  05:33 PM ET

jackman -- somethin' stinks here ... you don't think JGR was trying their hand at making those Japanese engine put out more power? According to Toyo, the engines were at their max power already under NASCAR guidelines. I don't believe the "rocker arm" deal either...

I suggest you look........your theory dosnt hold water stat wise. To call Jr not-hungry is just silly.

May 19, 2008  05:49 PM ET

Jr is definitely hungry and his standings over last year explain it all. He just needs to "close the deal" next race.
A few people have said that HMS made a big mistake letting KB go. I disagree. KB is having an awesome year, It is as if the getting booted out of HMS gave him the "spite" needed to do better, not to mention that the Toyos have outshone the other makes. I don't like KB or the Toyos, but facts are facts.
The best revenge is to be successful. so should KB send HMS a thank you note. probably not haha

WAA WAA TOYOTAS STINK WAA WAA. Get used to it b/c that number 18 Toyota will be sitting in that number 1 spot come the end of the year.

May 19, 2008  06:31 PM ET

Richard how much money you willing to bet on that ?

Little **** (Richard) is at it again -- loves his Toyos ... must have been part of the beach party at Pearl
