Smoltz return suffers setback

Not so fast on that planned John Smoltz return in late May. The chronically sore-shouldered pitcher still hopes to come back from the disabled list by the end of the month, but Smoltz acknowledged Sunday that he could be out significantly longer. "It could be anywhere between the [late May] timetable I discussed and a lot longer," said Smoltz, 41, who reported discomfort following his Thursday and Saturday bullpen sessions. He said he doesn't know yet whether he can pitch in games until the situation improves -- or when it will improve.

I don't know...but when your 41-yr. old pitcher has shoulder problems, well...that's kind of a really big deal.

That's kind of like a supermodel having face problems.

Lets not rely in Smoltzy so much any more, we need quality young pitching, obviously the guys coming out of the farm system arent doint too great, get better scouting, and sign a couple of freeagents.

remember... avery, smoltz, glavine , maddux.....formula for success = quality pitching, all we have now is hudson.

Not sure who remembers that group since no one was in the stands to see them. They might have heard rumors about them....but actually seeing or remembering? Doubtful when you have 14 people in the stands for a playoff game.

Ultra-dumb post.

The Atlanta Braves have drawn at least 2.3 million in attendance in every year since 1992. The drew more than 3 million in every non-strike year from 1992 to 2000. In those years, they ranked no lower than third in NL attendance, despite being in a mid-sized market.

Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I they must have empty seat costume night just about every night at Turner field. Bring your empty seat costume and you get 10% off your tickets.

Smoltz deserves to go out a winner. I hope he comes back and helps the Braves to the playoffs.

thanks for the grammar lessons I EFFIN RULE, but you cant dispute the facts: turner field has averaged at least 30,000 in attendance per game since 2000, before that they were averaging 40,000.

I don't know who this "I Effin' Rule" roots for, but unless it is the Yankees, Dodgers, or Cards, his team likely has drawn fewer fans since 1992 than the Braves have.
