Last-place Tigers have issues

Tigers manager Jim Leyland plans to meet today with president/general manager Dave Dombrowski. "We have a lot of issues to deal with right now," Leyland said. Leyland did not elaborate on the issues he planned to discuss, but some are obvious. One is Dontrelle Willis. He has had spotty control since spring training and walked four in his most recent rehab start. Armando Galarraga, who replaced him, has become the team's most consistent starter. Another issue is Gary Sheffield. Team officials have determined that persistent pain in his right shoulder will prevent him from playing leftfield on a regular basis.

This really IS weird,....... so many people were picking the Tigers as the eventual WS team.

Weird, still early, but time to start expecting improvement.

all teams have "issues" except for the Rays...

^ I wish our team had issues, yet still won like the Twins...

sports_lover- Get off the site ****!
It sucks seeing the team be so terrible, but then every time any one expects anything from us, we fall apart. I don't see much great coming from this season other than dropping a few problems in the roster.

Tigers have big issues no doubt. A record of 16-26 is bad, but it's the fact that nothing is improving that is really disturbing. They need to bring up more kids from Toledo.

I agree with Miggy94, Obviously the starting rotation isn't getting it done, put the pressure on them with more guys like Galarraga...

"Multiple scouts who watched the Tigers recently noted that Cabrera has limited mobility on the field and is in less-than-optimal physical condition."

There are just so many funny things which could be said about this I literally don't know where to start.

get rid of sheffield...somehow! with him gone, the tigers could open up the DH spot for cabrera and put inge back at 3rd with guillen at 1st. that improves the current offense and defence, unless someone remembers the last time was able to hit yet alone field anything!

May 19, 2008  09:00 AM ET

It is early with allot of games to go... having said that; they do have things that should concern them.

May 19, 2008  09:03 AM ET

It is way early but right now it looks like the Marlins get the better of the trade deal which is a bit of a shock.

The biggest question mark has to be Verlander. Regardless of how the rest of the team responds, if verlander doesn't figure it out the Tigers are in big trouble. You can't win without an ace and no one else on that staff can fill that role.

It's time to let Sheffield go. The Tiger's have been unable to recreate the magic of a few years ago since his arrival in town. Its not too late to let him go and try to get the ship back on track.

The Tigers are in Trouble !!!

May 19, 2008  09:23 AM ET

The Tigers fans in Detroit are getting frustrated and annoyed. A team with so much talent and experience should not be playing this badly...regardless of what their actual record is.

I have started seeing t-shirts and bumper stickers mocking the Tigers' "Who's your Tiger?" ad campaign all around town; it asks "Where's your Tiger?".

Brandon Inge started the Tigers troubles. He whined because he wanted to only play 3rd base. He is horrible, hitting 220. Tigers need to trde Inge but what big league team could he start for at 3rd? Cut Sheff, keep Galarraga in the rotation. Leyland is one of the best managers in baseball. He will right the ship eventually.
