JaMarcus pulling weight with Raiders

Posted: Monday May 19, 2008 07:29AM ET

After all the aggressive free agent moves made in Oakland this offseason, they wouldn't mean as much if the Raiders didn't see progress from quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2007. While rumors swirled that Russell had ballooned to 300 pounds earlier in the offseason, he took the field last week and proudly announced he was at 269. That's a relief to the Raiders faithful, and especially coach Lane Kiffin, who said the difference from what he saw from Russell was "night and day."

It's Not!

*cough* overrated *cough*

over rated..... YES, luckily he isn't overweight. I would think that being over a certain weight would void the contract, especially 300lbs.

What the hell happened to this team?

Report Offensive Comment

That why all that money they give to these unproven players should be restructured. Show me what you got before I pay you!!

He'll be a stud. Go Raider's!

Fat boy

Better off replacing Sapp at DT

Report Offensive Comment

too bad he can't learn an offense and the Raiders are being forced to use a limited playbook because he can't learn all the terms.

All you haters don't have a better prospect at QB, Squeeb you think Aaron Rodgers is gonna be better than Russell, or J. Campbell or whoever your favorite team is now?

Report Offensive Comment

lol squeeb you're a skins fan. Any team with Jason Cambell as its QB shouldn't be talking about someone being "over-rated."

Report Offensive Comment

269.. actually 283 but a beast. He still has many questions but has potential. Sad to say the raiders of today brings the worst out of potential stars...

Report Offensive Comment

He's had one year, sat out all of training camp, and you idiots are talking about him being overrated and his contract? Guess what, after this year you still wont know if he's overrated.

Now Alex Smith on the other hand, he's overrated. He's had several years to prove so.

Report Offensive Comment

What can I say.. something about the way this guy started his NFL path, just rubbed me the wrong way.

Why bring Campbell into the picture? I never said anywhere on this forum that he was the answer at QB.

Report Offensive Comment

He should have gotten his contract done in time last year and been on the field. He's still basically a rookie right now..

Report Offensive Comment

however much he weighs, he has a cannon. 60 yards on his knees. crazy

Report Offensive Comment

Russell will release Havoc with McFadden, Oo he cant learn the play book blah blah blah. He held out of training camp. He came from LSU so expect greatness

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah. LSU has a history of producing great NFL quarterbacks...

Report Offensive Comment

THIS GUY IS OVERRATED I WOULD TAKE DAVE CARR OVER HIM IN A HEART POUND!

Report Offensive Comment

He hasn't had a full of training camp or a season...how can anybody call him overrated...I swear ppl love to hate...he wasn't drafted for the on the field production anyway...he was dratfed off potential...if after a year or two he doesn't produce..then hit em with "overrated" or "bust"

Report Offensive Comment

I'd like to see how he progresses with a full training camp this year and time to absorb the system.

The Raiders' D may be where it's at, though. Good system, good corners- it all depends on the pass rush!
