Latest NFL rookie requirement

Posted: Monday May 19, 2008 07:34AM ET

Following a suggestion by former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin, the NFL is requiring all draft picks to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The idea is to expose them to the history of the game, which might yield a greater appreciation of the opportunity they have. Patriots rookies are scheduled to visit at the end of the month.

What's next, watching "Miracle on Ice"?

How about taking them to the local penitentiary to show them Mike Vick and what they face when they **** up?

Why would anyone follow the recommendations of Michael Irvin? I wonder how much he appreciated the opportunity he had when he was snorting lines of coke...

I'm a cowboy fan and was always embarrassed by Irvin's off the field issues. I completely understand why anyone would make negative comments about anything that he does. However, sometimes those that have gotten themselves into trouble offer the best advice and direction to younger people. They've experienced it firsthand and they also may have come to the realization that they didn't appreciate the gifts and opportunities that they were given. A guy like Irvin can get the attention of young players and actually do some good.

I don't think it's an awful idea, but who wants to go to Ohio. If it was in Cali or Florida, sure, free vacation for a weekend, stop in at HOF, then go hang on the beach. What are you doing to do in Canton, go to the HOF then the IHOP, then maybe if you lucky, go back to the hotel room to watch some free HBO.

FIELD TRIP!!

I don't think it is such a bad thing. In fact nothing bad can come from it and maybe some of the kids will learn something.

Phony window dressing...And everybody knows it...Commit crimes of all kinds and you are still a player..Steroids rampant and everyone turns their head...Give us a break, The NFL is looiking more and more like the NCAA when it comes to " looking good" with out messing with the " bottom line."

This would work in a more forgiving society......

Not a bad idea.

or they could just show the rookies all Michael Irvin's old press clippings. complete with the "forgotten years." the ones he wasn't such a saint in..

Report Offensive Comment

i think its a pretty good idea probably won't help them make better decisions though just gives them a history lesson, but like it was said no negative can come it.

Report Offensive Comment

Maybe he was smoking crack? I don't think he would have suggested this unless he was in.

Report Offensive Comment

This may send the wrong message. They may interpret it as, I can screw up as much as Michael Irvin, and still make it to the HOF.

@Duke of Awesome. That crack and pipe was not his. He was disposing of it for someone else. He's like a superhero.

Report Offensive Comment

I gotta say not that bad of an idea even coming from this effing crackhead.

Report Offensive Comment

Great Idea

Report Offensive Comment

I just think these rookies could care less about this in general, it would make more sense to make it a voluntary option, then you would be able to see if it was effective or not.

Report Offensive Comment

Wow! If that's the case; maybe Marvin Lewis should Ram Chad Johnson's head into the side of the building wall!
