Who will leave Penguins?
Marc-Andre Fleury and Jordan Staal? They aren't going anywhere. Evgeni Malkin and Ryan Malone? That's a bit more problematic. Marian Hossa and Brooks Orpik? It has been nice knowing those guys, and their major contributions to what could be a Stanley Cup team will never be forgotten by an appreciative franchise and city. What a hectic offseason it will be for Penguins general manager Ray Shero, one he hopes won't begin until after a Cup victory parade through town next month. Only one thing is certain: The team that has dazzled during these playoffs by going 12-2 and advancing to the Cup final won't be the same.

Penguins in 6. I really don't care who wins but I'm tired of seeing Detroit win it every other year!!

LOL. Just like Jagr. They'll probably get booed for 'leaving'.

The only reason why Jagr gets booed in Pittsburgh is because he asked to be traded out of the city when he was under contract...Players that leave via free agency are not treated as badly by the Pittsburgh fans look at Straka...We love former players, but not Jagr because he shunned the city!

By the way, this series will go to seven games and will be a toss up on who wins. But I say the Pens will pull it out and Gary Roberts will ascend into hockey heaven!

Thanks DMitch, coming from you I consider that a compliment. :D
Lemieux came back and they couldn't afford him so they had to a) make him play for peanuts or b) trade him. It made the most sense for both sides, dumbass.

The Pens won't be the same after...The Wings get done with them faster than a flying cephalopod hitting the ice ala Crosby courtesy of the Cusimano brother's fish market.

for all of you conspiracy people out there, I heard the the league was raising the salry cap for the upcoming season, so it looks like Pittsburgh should be able to keep most of the guys they want
Personally, I'd love to see Malkin in MSG before he turns 35

Malkin is going nowhere.
The Pens should resign Malone and Orpik. The rest can leave, and the Pens will retain their sopt at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Hossa was just a rental anyway, and he will parlay a productive post-season into a fat contract elsewhere.
Malkin has already stated he is interested in maxing out though, he won't give the discount that Crosby gave the Pens. I can see a few years down the road, maybe Shero ponders trading Malkin for a boatload of talent and picks, but to trade him now would be silly.

Why are people giving series predictions? This thread is supposed to be about predicting which Penguins are leaving town. But I'll jump on the bandwagon real quick - Pens in seven.
As for who is staying and who is leaving, there is no way we lose Fleury, Staal or Malkin. It just isn't feasible. Fleury is a franchise goalie and Staal is only 19 years old. Shero wouldn't trade the #2 pick in the draft so soon. Ryan Malone is a hometown hero, but there are plenty of other players who can supply 40-50 points every season that we can spend less money on. If it comes down to trading Malone to keep Malkin, Ray Shero would be a nut to offload the absolute best hockey player in the world.
Marian Hossa, sadly, will be gone. He has had a fantastic postseason and loves Pittsburgh (and winning), but there is no way the Penguins will match his asking price of at lease $6 million. Pittsburgh thanks Hossa for getting us to the Cup finals, but we wish you happy trails wherever you go (New York or New Jersey I imagine). Again, you have to keep Malkin. Brooks Orpik is a young blueliner with potential to be an NHL All-Star. I think the Penguins need to find a way to re-sign him. He can be paired with any other defensemen in the lineup, checks hard, blocks shots and can run the point on the powerplay if Gonchar is out.
Sykora might need to be sacrificed as well. Again, plenty of young guys who can do what he does for less money. You have to keep Orpik and Malkin. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pens took a step back next year, but as long as you keep the world class talent, the young guys will grow into the system.

pantherfan,
I agree with most of what you said, but I have to ask being here in NY and not in Pittsburgh...is Gonchar getting the credit he deserves over there? I think his contribution must be being overlooked a bit, cause it sure seems to be nationally.
I wonder if Hossa is coming here (NYC) I've read/heard that a lot, I don't hink it's a done deal.
