Rutgers lines up two big recruits
Greg Schiano's "State of Rutgers" appears to be extending its recruiting borders. The Scarlet Knights received a verbal commitment today from defensive lineman Andre Civil of Sheepshead Bay High School in Brooklyn, and may add another player tomorrow when tight end Paul Carreola holds a mid-afternoon press conference at Neshaminy (Pa.) High School to announce his college decision. Carrezzola, a 6-3, 250-pounder, has been hinting that Rutgers leads over Pittsburgh, North Carolina State and Iowa. Civil, a 6-3, 240-pounder, has a chance to bulk up to 270 to 275 pounds and move inside, said recruiting expert Mike Farrell of rivals.com.

Schiano has been one heck of a recruiter for Rutgers. For the sake of these players, Scarlet Knights fans, and the state of New Jersey, here's hoping he's not in Happy Valley by January 2009, recruiting there.

Schiano turned down Michigan...I think he will turn down PSU even with his connections there. He wants to make his own legacy at his own school unlike many coaches who would rather follow in the foot steps of other great coaches! I respect this guy more than any other coach in the country besides JoePa. I hope he continues to do the unthinkable and build Rutgers into a national power!

With the improvement in recruits, RU is definitely continuing on their road to being a team to be taken seriously. What is great about the new recruits is that Schiano is starting to move in on Penn State territory, including NYC. While NYC is not a hot bed of football, snagging some of the best kids is definitely a good get for the program. I hope to be somewhere warm this January (sorry Toronto, but I don't want to return to the International Bowl!!!)

Schiano is a class act, and is assembling a juggernaut. He can rule the Weak East.
If only Rutgers' fans had his class (taunting Navy of all things).

I agree RUSteve. NYC HS Football doesn't really develop talented players but it's important that Rutgers does land the few gems that they do produce. Civil needs to add some weight, like this article suggests, but he's a good lineman.

I love Toronto, but not in January. It's a nice city in the summer time but I feel you on not wanting to be there then.

Kudos to Coach Schiano and what he has accomplished and continues to do so at Rutgers. Nice to see a man remain committed to his school, his state and the goals he originally set out to accomplish starting in 2001. Rich Rodriguez may have had Schiano's "number" as far as W's and L's go in the seven years their teams played one another, but in the end, it looks like Schiano had Rodriguez's number in terms of integrity and class.

That about sums up my feelings about Schiano, proving that college football is more than just wins and loses....nicely put Art..

Rutgers biggest competition in NJ is Notre Dame. Carlo Cabrese and Adam LaLota are 2 NJ recruits who will probably end up joining Tyler Stockton, a defensive tackle from Jersey, in South Bend. Weis' connections is probably what is making that happen.

"I hope to be somewhere warm this January (sorry Toronto, but I don't want to return to the International Bowl!!!)"
RUSteve, I'm not a huge RU fan but as a NJ resident and member of a family of longtime loyal RU fans, I hope they do well and am happy when they do. But really now, to hope for a bowl game somewhere warm in January? The Big East is going to be loaded this season with Pitt, UConn, Cinncy, and likely WVU heads above RU. (Possibly a healthy Kordell Young having a breakout year destroys these predictions). RU looks like they'll be at one of those December 20ish type bowl games or back in Toronto at this point. I hope I'm wrong, but...

I do not fully disagree Irish#1 with your comment but I am not sure NJ high school football coaches are as thrilled collectively with Weis as you think. Weis was once a HS coach in NJ too. Schiano has a ton more of respect with these coaches than Weis ever will.

Rutgers not going to a good bowl has more to do with the big east's terrible bowl contracts than their own doing.
That guy- College football is about money; I'm sorry that NYC, the Big Ten and Notre Dame have it while SEC fans are still running around barefoot. Ad revenue decides content.
EastCoastKeith- You have no affiliation with any team and only talk sh** (and some backhanded comments.) I have no respect for your postings. Perhaps you should focus more on your job so you could make enough money to become WestCoastKeith.
