Taylor's dance makes Parcells bristle

Wednesday, the Dolphins end their latest round of football preparation, but again sans Jason Taylor, who hopes to be making the morning-after talk-show rounds that day with dance partner Edyta Sliwinska, basking in triumph, luxuriating in swelling stardom. Meanwhile, back at Dolphins headquarters in Davie, club high-potentate Bill Parcells quietly bristles and boils, stews and seethes, over Taylor's continued absence -- over the very idea that a player on his watch might choose ballroom dancing over Tuna's definition of dedication. And get away with it! What galls Parcells (picture the face of a man biting a lemon) is that a ''Parcells guy'' does not prance or pirouette in ruffled sleeves. Be clear that the villain in this soap is Parcells, whose enmity over this situation would be comical if it weren't so sad. So small.

An interview I heard yesterday with Jason Taylor summed it up best.

"I'm in the best shape of my life at this time of the year".

Parcells I don't think has ever gotten on a dance floor and has no idea the amount of time and effort all that dancing really takes. There is a reason you don't see fat dancers. The repeated effort they do for 6 or 7 days per week for up to 8 hours per day makes dancers among the best aerobically conditioned athletes.

Taylor also said something along the lines of "I've been getting down in a 3 point stance for 12 years, I don't need a mini-camp to remind me how to do it".

I really agree with the last line of this article best "Be clear that the villain in this soap is Parcells, whose enmity over this situation would be comical if it weren't so sad. So small."

I think this is a GREAT career move for Taylor. He has made it clear he would like to get into acting once his playing career is over. He has made a name for himself from dancing on the show, a name that he can translate into opportunities when he retires from football.

Jason is already receiving offers for movies. He will play one more year than on to super "stardom". Dancing was a stepping stone.

And Parcells makes everyone else bristle, so you see Bill, your not alone.

Who cares Bill, just change your laxative and you'll be fine!

The NFLPA Union sucks. Why bother calling these 'off season' training sessions 'voluntary' if players are being coerced into attending them. I can't imagine baseball players having to show up prior to Spring Training.

May 20, 2008  07:16 AM ET

Parcells needs to stay in the office and let the coaching staff run this team, unless, of course, he's planning on pulling a Pat Riley in Miami.

May 20, 2008  07:30 AM ET

Parcells would have a point if he had accomplished winners with the Jets and Cowboys but since he bails early when things dont go his way Taylor shouldnt care. Taylor should say that why should I worry about him he will quit the team in a year or two.

Remember folks. At the top of the NFL all-time, ****, personality-deficient coach family tree in the NFL is Bill Parcells. By the way buford, excellent point about the NFLPA Union and these "offseason" sessions.

Parcells gave that piece of crap TO in Dallas plenty of breaks all the time.

Jason Taylor is legendary and he is a top notch charachter player with strong ties to the community and known for his public service.

A great player and a great all around guy.........

WTF Tuna......

Has anyone ever actually heard Parcells say anything about this? I haven't seen a single clip or quote from him. I wonder if it's just the medi assuming Parcells must be po'd.

Well put, totally agree.

Frankly, I'm really enjoying this whole story arc of the Tuna steaming over this.

It makes great copy!

I think the people running the dance show should send a public invitation to Parcells to come visit and watch a taping, or better yet, offer him a spot for next seasons competition!

HA!

I'm guessing Parcells didn't call in to vote for him?

May 20, 2008  09:18 AM ET

Just curious....But what has Jason Taylor ever won?

I live in Florida and I am a dolphins fan and have never seen nor heard a word about this from Parcels himself if he had a problem with this i am sure he would have been a little more vocal about as Parcel is not one to keep quiet
