Stars complain about Wings faceoffs

Posted: Tuesday May 20, 2008 08:22AM ET

Stars coach Dave Tippett said he had several conversations with the referees throughout the Western Conference finals about how Red Wings' players often were in motion before faceoffs, giving them an advantage in winning possession of the puck. "We've talked a lot about it," Tippett said. "There are always subjects like that that are brought up that hopefully play into a situation when you're trying to make sure it's fair." The Red Wings won 62 percent of the faceoffs in the series and were even better at home, winning 67 percent.

It's Not!

As a Wings fan, maybe I shouldn't talk, but I think what Dallas did this year was extremely impressive. They don't need to end it with excuses. They should just hold their head high, they overachieved most peoples expectations, and will undoubtedly be back in the next few years. Nice run.

Biminator - this discussion started from the 1st period of game one and it was evident that the Wings did not get their stick set on the ground or were moving and that was a distinct advatage, However, the stars should have been smart enough to return the favor.

Something must be done next year to ensure the players are not getting that advantage during the face offs.

And this just in....The Stars did well but just aren't good enough.

Stars had a hell of a playoff run too bad it always turns sour at the end unless you win the cup!

Good run for the Stars and a Great team. They just got beat by a Better one.
Of course the Wings percentage is higher on faceoffs at home. Home teams always have the advantage...Now the fun begins...Stanley Cup finals....
Yaaahoooo...!

Too bad out of all of the topic they could post they put this crap. So what if Tippett complained about the face off since the beginning. Do you think his first thought after losing to the over talented Wings is the face off issue? I would have rather seen something positive. This gives a false impression that the Stars are making excuses for their loss and I don't think that is accurate. Not many Stars fans are disappointed with how far the Stars came this season. This is a team that almost slid out of playoff contention. They were picked to get knocked out yet again in the first round and to be honest I thought they would too with their young team that has a motley crew of players that fell together AFTER the Stars management made some of the dumbest trades over the past 2 or 3 years. Getting Richards was one of the first good moves I've seen in a while although we are going to be looking for a better backup to help Turco during the long season.
Simply put, the Stars still overachieved what their talent level was in my opinion. It has been fun to watch the scappy fight of Morrow and others this post season. All credit should go to the Wings for one impressive lineup. Osgood held strong this game although Dallas didn't make him have to do much. Kudos to the Wings all the way around.

Hey, Tippett! Too late for that! They beat you fair and square! Move on and concentrate on making your team better for next year! There's always next year, y'know?

Gamesmanship on faceoffs is part of the game. If the linesman is letting the other team get away with something, you'd better start doing it too.

For the record, there was no s**ting of myself happening. Now had the Stars won last night as well, we may have been having a different conversation here!

The Stars had a great run--we can thank our LUCKY stars that they took out the Ducks and the Sharks FOR us.

I, too, would prefer if they just held their heads high for having such a great post-season, and left the complaining about face-offs for next year. It tarnishes such a strong push, almost taking the series to a CATACLYSMIC Game 7, if they start making excuses now.

They're a great team, and I would expect them to be strongly in the mix next year. Some very chippy stuff was happening on both ends of the rink, and I'm sure that Robidas for one is happy to have the hits come to a halt.

The most gratifying thing to me is to see guys like Draper and Drake scoring goals in the elimination game--guys who work tirelessly game in and game out, and are finally rewarded.

I just don't know what happened, Bauner. I was in pretty good shape when I looked at it last, and then BAM, I lose. I even re-read the arguments and felt I had won. Thanks to you and bgm for defending me in my absence from the erroneous charges that I was flip-flopping as well. Brutal. Meh. I really don't care that much, truth be told, I was just surprised.

And no, I never got nervous about that series, bgm. It may be easy to say now, but I really didn't. I was disappointed they let Turco win a game in the Joe, but I knew that when the chips were really down, ol' Marty wouldn't be there for his team, and I was right! Anybody can win games with no pressure on their shoulders, its when the pressure starts building up that the gems really shine, and, well, I had no worries about Turco shining in the clutch. He may be a more technically sound goalie than Osgood, but I'll take Ozzie in a must-win game over Turco every day of the week, thanks

I'm lovin the Baun-ded/bostongm rivalry. It's entertaining, really. About the faceoffs... Yes the Wings get away with a lot of stuff that they shouldn't on faceoffs. The Stars get away with almost as much if not more. I didn't have a chance to watch much more than the highlights of this series, but I do know that during the regular season, the Stars NEVER had anyone kicked out of the faceoff, even though it was usually their centermen that were in violation of the rules. I really don't see why they're complaining about the same thing that helped them get a lot of goals.
