Cowboys close to benching Williams

How close are the Cowboys to flat dumping a highly paid safety who has five straight Pro Bowls on his current resume? But five straight Pro Bowls don't balance out with Roy Williams being benched last season in certain coverage situations, replaced by guys who aren't even on the team at the moment. And five straight Februarys in Hawaii don't fit with Williams being the club's most maligned player by media and fans. Even in the NFL family, Roy's reputation has slipped to the point where he's among those listed as the NFL's most overrated. Could he be headed out of town on a one-way ticket? There are those at Valley Ranch who say Williams has no job-security issues for now, but training camp and the exhibition season could possibly change that in a hurry, depending on Roy's work ethic and attitude.

How much of this story is TRUTH?

Don't know about the truth in the story...but it's true that he's a liability in passing situations...it's cool with me though...keep him in, I hate the Cowboys

It should be all truth. In my opinion.

Every time I think of him I smell burnt toast. Subliminally of course..

Not all the true, Jerry Jones loves him for some reason

It did.

He's gone after the '08 season - unless he makes some dramatic improvements in his play.

roy williams proves that its all about the branding. all form, no substance.

May 21, 2008  12:36 AM ET

Coach Phillips has asked Jerry Jones to flip a coin - heads - Williams plays - tails - he sits !!!

After this year Williams out of town (after June 1st to further mitigate the cap hit), shift Hamlin to his natural position at Strong, and then bump Pat Watkins up to the starter at the free side.

I'd say the 'Boys are }{ this close to just dumping the underperforming ****. The fact that he's been to 5 straight pro bowls doesn't mean much. So the man knows how to schmooze within the league. So what. All I know is I've watched plenty of Cowboys games and I've never seen Roy Williams show up.

Roy is still a stud, the game's changed though. Everyone's got the "passing" offense now, when we picked 31 up from Oklahoma, we was mostly concerned with defending guys with names like Tiki, Clinton and Westbrook...not guys named Santana, Plaxico and Amani. The game has changed...and I know Roy's havin' a tuff time with the transition, but he's still a freakin' warrior (that hasn't changed), And I've never seen this dude back down from ANY FIGHT... Trust me, if you were in a dark alley and needed some back-up, this is the cat you take to the party (with MB3 coming in a close 2nd).
Roy will be back... and for all those years that we've been spoiled with the pleasure of witnessing all of his "bone-jarring" hits and "near-decapitations", we need to extend some respect to the man and give him a bit a latitude...then again... inside linebacker could be a good fit.

The Cowboys have juice. I'm trying to think of the last time I came across a story about the Lions, Texans, Bucanneers, Chiefs, etc. Not all teams are created equally.

we should have drafted a safety last month; instead, we glutten on rb's and cornerbacks; please come back Darren Woodson.
