I despise the Yankees, but give Cashman a little credit. He has reinvigorated the farm system, and the jury is still out on talent such as Hughes, Joba and some of the others.

However, he has to answer for not making the Santana trade, and several free agent signings that just haven't gone well. Carl Pavano, anyone?

All in all, it boils down to this; Who is going to replace him?

Hankie had the final call on the Santana trade. He got pissed of at Minnesota asking for too much and said no. So it's really on him.

ok, consider it hijacked...hyper, how do you think his arm will be after throwing so many pitches? I have concerns after what happened with Buch last year.

Congrats to this kid. Great story.

RSB, it's a good point. A lot of docs think that the biggest threat to a young pitcher's arm isn't innings/season, but the occasional big-pitch game. Kerry Wood got overused a few times in college, and a lot of people think that was his undoing.

But for every one of those, there's a Dice-K who threw 300 pitches a day and seems fine.
