Draper takes one on the chin
Posted: Tuesday May 20, 2008 09:52AM ET
Kris Draper tasted blood, teeth, a goal and pure delight. After being the recipient of what he called a saucer pass from linemate Dallas Drake, Draper deflected the puck off Marty Turco and into Dallas' net Monday night to help the Red Wings to a 4-1 victory and a trip to the Stanley Cup finals. The puck caught Draper right on his chin and the gash required six stitches sewed into a quickly trimmed beard. "This assist was beautiful," Draper said. "Nice saucer pass right off my chin and in. I had three teeth that weren't in the place they usually are. We'll talk about that one later."

Report Offensive CommentDraper...Gawd you gotta love Canadian hockey players!
6 stitches and lost teeth and right back on the ice.
Upon closer inspection of the video review...those teeth also ended up in the net...so who says there is no tooth fairy.
Grinning...The Pens are about to get a "bite" of reality finally. Wings in 6.

Report Offensive CommentCouldn't agree with you more baun. If Crosby took a hit in the mouth like thet it would probably knock his upper lip growth off,( Can't call that a mustache).Plus he would never have made it back in the game. Quite the tooth in the mouth play though. Talk about giving up the body. What about the nasty crosscheck he took right after the play. Crosby would have been crying a river to the ref.

Report Offensive CommentWhat a guy Chris Draper is! Instead of going down like he was shot, he swallowed his teeth and put the puck in the net!
What chance did the Stars have when those guys can score on you even with their theeth?
Should be a great finals!

Report Offensive Commentisn't Draper the guy Claude lemuiex plastered into the boards (from behind)?
Spiny Norman | 05/20/08, 12:10 PM
Report Offensive Commentsure is, Spiny.
And what a job by a character guy! Before the game everybody was talking about lack of secondary scoring and how Drapes hadn't scored in 12 games, well, looks like problem solved, if you ask me. Give Franzen another 3-4 days of rest and you'll see him in the lineup for Game 1, and they will be back to firing on all cylinders. What a Final we got coming up, huh? Could be the highest quality hockey we've seen in the Final in decades!

Report Offensive CommentThat's the difference between players like Draper and Lupul. One scores anyway he can when it really counts, the other one fills the net when it doesn't really matter.
DCruiser | 05/20/08, 02:32 PM
Report Offensive CommentMore credit should be given to Drake for banking it off his head. That takes skill to aim it at the chin and to hit his mark. the Wings need Franzen big time in the Final. Pens in 6.
