Donaghy's lawyer, NBA trade insults

While the former NBA referee Tim Donaghy awaits his fate in federal court, his lawyer and league officials are trading insults and accusations through the courts and the news media. John Lauro, who represents Donaghy, asserted in court papers Monday that games had been affected by relationships between referees, players and coaches. He also implied that the NBA was pressuring federal prosecutors to suppress information -- provided by Donaghy -- about the misconduct of other referees. A league official promptly denounced the charges as "lies" and "unfounded allegations," dismissing them as "the desperate act of a convicted felon." On Tuesday, Lauro and Commissioner David Stern again traded insults --- Lauro in a written statement and Stern in a briefing with reporters at the NBA draft lottery. Lauro called the NBA's previous statement -- issued by Joel Litvin, the president of league and basketball operations -- "unfortunate and ill-advised."

krose22 - "not a good coach" ?? This article is not about any coach. Get lost, spammer.

Anyway, things are "looking up" for David Stern, no? Just take a look at his expression in the picture. He is looking upward.
Or, does he always look up, because he is a midget who runs a tall man's sport?

Lauro has nothing else to offer except insults. His client is guilty.

Well the grinning idiot is now denying charges that more NBA refs are corrupt...All you have to do is watch a re run of last nights Celtics/Pistons game and see all the bogus calls that Detroit got and its evident that they were trying to keep score down or give Detroit a chance to come back.

I agree with Hllywd, but at the same time I think David Stern is a snake also. And the NBA clearly has teams they would prefer to win come playoff time every year.

And this isn't bigger than spy-gate because....?

(This was already posted this in a previous topic, so I apologize for anyone reading the repeat)

I think for all NBA 7-game series, they should rotate the refereeing crew for each game. Ideally, each referee would not call more than one or two games in the entire series.

I think this would help minimize the negative impact that the few dirty refs have on the game. They would have to sit and wait to see the honest result of each game, like the rest of us have to.

Rotating referees and instant replay needs to be put in place for next season.

Just replace all of the referees w/ new ones next year. The referees we have today are too bias and tend to favor certain teams or players. They cannot change their ways anymore. Old dogs can't learn new tricks. If you watch any of the games you could tell that certain refs have different calls. No consistency. Even if you rotate the refs which is what they are doing anyways, it will not work. You don't have to have a gambling problem to be a bad ref. Each ref has their own agenda.

Referees should call the game fairly but that rarely happens. Bad habits are hard to break.

It should be easy to get new refs w/ the money their making and all the benefits that they get. Who wouldn't want to be an NBA ref?

Here's an insult - Donaghy, you suck balls. Here's hoping you get raped in prison by guys with serious cases of genital warts and gonorrhea.
