It seems more likely than ever that Richard Jefferson could be traded. He would probably have to be included if the Nets want to land one of the biggest superstars in the league, Carmelo Anthony. The teams are rumored to have talked.

The Nets would get better as a result of this deal, and the Nuggets would downgrade a bit.
Maybe the Nuggets are trying to turn themselves into a lottery team, now that they know that the West is very tight right now.
Not a bad strategy - get some draft picks by trading Carmelo, downgrade the overall caliber of the team, and get some lottery picks for a year or two. Then rise back up to the Playoffs after that, in the hope that the West has diluted a bit by then.

How exactly would the Nets be getting a better deal?? Now if Melo played some D, we wouldn't be arguing. Otherwise its just a swap of decent players in the NBA by two losing sides. No more, no less. Neither team would become a contender even if their entire rosters were turned around with each other.

That's what the Nets need, an indifferent defender to play with the indifferent Vince Carter.

Who said you need heart to win?

ESPN - Jefferson is a good player, but when has he ever been considered a "superstar", let alone "one of the biggest superstars in the league", as the article labels Carmelo?
Jefferson could not even lift the Nets to the weak Eastern Conference playoffs, once Kidd was gone.
Obviously, since one side would be getting a "superstar" in return for just a "decent player", that side would be benefiting.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Your lack of knowledge is exceeded only by your ability to conjure up the most ridiculous ideas. This trade will do absolutely nothing for either of these teams. At the end of the day, neither team has addressed the problems they have now. The only thing that this deal will change, is a couple of addresses.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I shouldn't have tried.

Trade Jefferson for Bargiani or to Utah for AK-47

Hllywd - what the hell are you talking about ??
Are you on crack ??
The Nets will have a better chance to get to the playoffs with Melo than with Jefferson.
Whoever said anything about being a contender?
Show me one place where I have said that either team becomes a contender. Making it back to the Playoffs does not mean that a team is a title contender.

Jefferson is a GREAT #3 player- similar to Shawn Marion
He is a fair #2 type talent

Melo- IN THEORY should be a #1- but in Reality he is a #2 type talent

Don't downplay how good a player Jefferson is though
He plays D, rebounds, scored- WITH NO PLAYS RUN FOR HIM
I would take him in a MINUTE on my team- not as your franchise talent- but as a SOLID sidekick-
Winning NBA teams NEED these type players-

personally i think the Nuggets should dismantle the team and get awesome young players, there are teams need veterans, the hawks might let some young players go for a vveteran , so would the wolves, so sink the team while keeping good young players you already have then emerge but let them ALL go !!! don't keep iverson, or anyone from the starting 5, let them all go

Denver can become a contender......move to the eastern conference. with their record this year, they would be in talks about a team comming out of the east for the finals......but melo needs to act right and play defense so he can reach his potental. if not then another story about what could have been on on of those "where are they now" shows on VH1 or ESPN 8 "the ocho."

There is nothing to be gained either way. The Nets have no better chance of making the playoffs than they have now. Carmelo may be a better rebounder, but he doesn't play defense, and may have some character issues.

Exactly!

If the Nuggets want to rebuild, I think Anthony is the player they should keep. They could trade Iverson to Portland for exmaple in exchange for Outlaw, Frye and their pick and trade Camby to the nets for Marcus and Sean Williams and their dallas-pick.

Carmello going back to the NY area might be a good thing - at least for him. He's so revered on that area the cops might just look the other way when he's driving around town with marijuana smoke billowing from his car windows.

The guy has turned into a first-rate loser who is more concerned with his money, bling-bling, tattoos and braids than he is with winning. He appears to be destined to become the next Derrick Coleman - loads and loads of talent, but with no respect for the game and no commitment to winning.

He may put points on the board and fannies in the seats (at least for a while), but he'll never put any hardware in your trophy case at the NBA level.

Vince Carter for Melo? Just kidding because the Nuggets are not that stupid, i hope. If they are, the Nuggets can then become the Nets West.

In any case I think Harris, Jefferson, Krstic and Swift are keepers. Anyone else should be expendable for the right deal.

May 21, 2008  11:31 AM ET

Too bad the Nets didn't do so well in the draft

May 21, 2008  12:39 PM ET

NUGGETS should pull the trigger and make the trade. Jefferson is a better fit with K-Mart since both played briefly with the NETS.

The NUGGETS have two scorers on the team right now (Anthony and Iverson) and both want the ball the majority of the time. Jefferson is an opportunity player and can run with Iverson.

Make the trade.

The Nets should trade Jefferson to the Mavs for JHo. This is a pretty even trade. Jefferson will reunite w/ JKidd and JHo will reunite w/ Devin Harris. This might work for both sides and will make both team very happy. They both have the same style of play and probably have almost the same amount in pay which is critical in any trade.
