Tenth pick hurts Nets-Nuggets deal

The Nets picking 10th won't help in any pursuit of Carmelo Anthony. The Nets and Nuggets have had talks regarding Anthony, who is available. But it was generally felt that if the Nets could have moved up, like the Bulls did in getting the No. 1 pick from No. 9, it would have greatly aided any chance of getting Anthony.

Of course!
The Nuggets should definitely demand first round picks in future drafts if they are to trade away Melo.
Otherwise, they are fools.
Of course, the Nuggets' strategy is to get first-round picks from the trade -AND- get lottery picks next year, so as to bolster the team after a couple years.

The lottery is broken......get rid of it. Give the draft picks in the appropiate order..............this aint right.

Yup- the draft lottery needs to disappear! Worst team should get #1. The Nuggets could have better options trading Melo, keep looking and listening to offers. NJ does have 2 1st round draft picks this year

worst team should NOT get the first pick!!! it's a shame miami got the second pick, i hoped they would fall further cause they didn't show any respect to basketball fans and the game by tanking last season.

Laughs how many years did teams like the LAL Boston etc gets great younger players inthe form of draft choices from bottom of the league teams in the pre lottery era? Sorry but they loteery was made to keep balance not great messes like there was in the years leading uo to the lottery........
Grossedout9 | 05/21/08, 08:01 AM

It's too bad most of today's fannation is too young to remember. The lottery may not be perfect, but without it, we would have the same problems again.

Don't think so. I think the lottery adds a little extra spice to it. I like the idea that it is not that predictable so team better play good instead of hoping for a high pick and next season...

The lottery is as broken as much as the league allows flops. It's not a perfect system but at least you won't see 8 teams trying to tank at the end of the season for a guaranteed #1 pick.

BTW - Boston did not rebuild through the draft. They had some assistance from the c0-executive of the year, Kevin McHale.

Thank God Brooklyn got the 10th pick. That was a pretty sorry package in return for Melo and Camby. I think a trade with Chicago would be better for the Nuggets anyway, so maybe it's good that the Bulls ended up with #1. I doubt that any trade will actually happen, but I think the Chicago is better and more likely than Brooklyn.

bargani , ford , parker and #17pick for Melo

Melo and bosh and calderon will dominate the east and may be even a championship.

May 21, 2008  11:24 AM ET

I still don't see how this trade could help both teams but who knows

May 21, 2008  12:30 PM ET

this drunk driving, overated, back peddler will only generate hype/revenue and not a championship. i guess that's what the league turns towards.

Brooklyn? Funny I haven't seen any Arena's go up in my hometown lately. Until further notice, say New Jersey Nets not Brooklyn Nets.

This NBA lottery system is okay but can be better. I believe that any team that does not make it to the playoffs should have equal chance at the #1 pick. This way no teams should be tanking games in purpose. This is pro basketball. Every team should try to win no matter what game it is. It could be the 70th game or 82nd game, etc. This way every team would always give it their best. They owe it to the fans.
