Another crew chief for Montoya

Posted: Wednesday May 21, 2008 06:17AM ET

Sprint Cup Series driver Juan Pablo Montoya has another new crew chief. Effective immediately, Brian Pattie will take over as crew chief for Montoya and his No. 42 Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, team officials confirmed on Tuesday. The crew chief will be the third in as many weeks for Montoya. Montoya's former crew chief, Donnie Wingo, swapped places with the crew chief of teammate Reed Sorenson, Jimmy Elledge, in late April. On Tuesday, Elledge left the organization and was replaced by Pattie, who has worked with Ganassi's Nationwide Series teams. Montoya is currently 16th in points with just one top-10 finishes this season, a second at the April 27 race at Talladega, Ala.

To be honest with Sith, Mugwump Montoya is one
of the biggest cry baby's in Nascar today, next to
Tony , Gordon (both) and the list goes on,He is to
demanding and still doesn't know hoe to race in
Nascar. He should have remained in Open Wheels

A driver cannot reach his optimim performance if he has to get used to different crew chiefs in short periods of time. That said, one has to look at it another way and that would be the driver. JPM is known to be difficult to deal with and crew chiefs do not just walk away on a whim, so maybe JPM is the problem here. or maybe Gannassi is. One has to wonder about that.

Good move Jimmy! Jimmy is the brother-in-law to Dale Jr. Now that Jr. has announced that he MIGHT be taking his nationwide cars to the sprint cup next year, he's probably going to have Jimmy on his payroll! "The demon" - you're right! all Montoya can do is whine.......he's so perfect and does nothing wrong and still believes that a stock car is the same as an indy car. he needs to go back home and go back to school!!!!!

I heard one of the talking heads on SPEED refer to Juan-Fabio Montoya as the "Colombian Jeff Gordon". Don't know if that was a comment on his effeminate nature or his whining....

Report Offensive Comment

gstrdr Very good;if I had to venture a guess I would say the talking head was making reference to the whining and the effeminate nature. Picture this; Mr Montoya and Mr. Gordon in a knock down, drag out brawl. Oh God, I can't picture that. LOL

It loses its flavor in seconds......then you need to replace it like it was just a crew chief.

Let's see...the 42 team continues to do poorly. Throughout all the crew chief and tire changes, one thing remains the same: Montoya. At some point Ganassi will have to realize the common fault in the 42 team.

Report Offensive Comment

haha good one jackman.have you seen his juicy fruit commercial.whoever wrote that script must hate the gum too. JPM acts like he hates everything in it. weirdest thing to watch IMO

Report Offensive Comment

Montoya clearly has lost ability to handle Winston Cup cars - drivers that go through crew chief after crew chief have clearly lost knowledge of what they want in the racecars.

jpm is like a stick of gum.....................in two minutes he is soft sticky and used up......................i think he is the problem.................not the crew cheif...............he is in the top 20 for points but i think that is not goung to last

JPM has a chance to become a good driver, But he needs to mesh with his crew chief, it is hard to communicate with a different chief all the time.. Juan has benn doing pretty well this year, at least he isn't wreciking every one like he did last year!!

montoya only looks comfortable on the road race's and sucks to be him there's only a few of 'em. Send this non-driving, racing from the rear fool home to open wheel where he belongs

The only two intelligent comments I see here are by Luvdatracin(his first one) and Ohio-jrfan.

Wen drivrs go through crew chiefs with aywhere close to this frequency, it means on thin - the driver no longer knows what he wants to make the car go fast.

They need to give him someone like the "Rock" as a crew chief so that every time Juan-Fabio decides to wash-out in turn 2 the "Rock" can give him a nice "encouraging" lecture 'bout respect and ability on the track (this lesson of course being administered with a 2 X 4).

Report Offensive Comment

The first crew chief swap was not because of Montoya. It was because Ganassi is a moron.

If Montoya was white, nobody would be criticizing him as often as they do now. You guys sure do a great job of changing the perception of the stereotypical Nascar fan.
