How Stars two-headed GM works

Posted: Wednesday May 21, 2008 07:23AM ET

When Les Jackson and Brett Hull were named to replace Doug Armstrong as Stars general manager in November, there were snickers around the league. One, critics felt Hull was ill-prepared. Two, critics felt combining the opposite thinkers would create decision-making problems. But, so far, the two have done exactly what owner Tom Hicks expected. "They're good together because they are so different," Hicks said. Hull is the impatient one pushing for more offensive talent. He put his reputation on the signing of Mike Ribeiro to a five-year, $25 million contract extension, saying the 29-year-old center was just scratching the surface of his potential. Jackson is the quiet scientist who has a vision of five years down the line. He is the one who told coach Dave Tippett to play kids such as Loui Eriksson, Joel Lundqvist, Nicklas Grossman, Matt Niskanen and Mark Fistric. Together, Hull and Jackson have combined to make the Stars a young team, a team that is just entering its prime -- a team that, realistically, should get better every game.

It's Hot!

Rank: 4

It's Not!

How it worked is like this:

Things went well, after a slow start that lowered expections which made them "overachieve" (in a way), and they made a big trade for Richards while Turco had his most successful playoffs. I don't have much faith it will work out long term, especially once they hit long term adversity.

It'll go okay, until Brett gets mad and starts pouting......which inevitably, he will do.

Living in the DFW area I was glad to see the Stars do so well in the playoffs, but the truth is the Stars played way over their heads. The Red Wings showed me and everyone else how Dallas is not an elite team and how far the team needs to go to become one of the elite teams.

JK I love you Brett IDK why they always show you when you're eating!

taylor_fw - the Stars have the advantage of a lot of youth that played very well in the playoffs and that is the future of an elite Stars team. Yes, the Wings are the elite team this year and maybe next but they will start to loose their core team as age is coming an issue. No team in our division can handle the wings as they are now but the Stars proved they are number 2 and will soon be number 1 in our division.

How many times do I have to explain on these threads that it is LOSE, not LOOSE?! Seriously, the quality of education that some of you display is scary. Of course, with a handle like "F inth A", there's obviously something wrong with you. I know that some words are spelled differently in Canada than here in the USA, but I seriously doubt that LOSE and LOOSE fall into that category. For the love of God people, get a dictionary!

Oh Grammar Police, where have you been? It probably happens so much because of the repeat rate of the keyboard rather than the intellect of the poster (in most cases) Either way, relax before you get some stress induced illness.

It's not grammar Kabong. They're two completely different and unrelated words. Look it up.

LOL, to be honest I was thinking the SAME EXACT THING! I made the mistake when I was young but once it was pointed out to me and I saw I looked like an idiot I never made the mistake again. Sometimes typing can make you gloss right over what you type and not think about it but still... LOL! Here at Fan Nation I have seen this mistake so many times that even I was prepared to say, "LOSE and not LOOSE!!! PLEASE!!" You can only see it so many times and you want to help them correct it. Of course they come back with a statement like, "Grammar police" when it isn't grammar and you know there is no hope. Oh well, to each their own. Guess I'll have to get used to seeing a lot of LOOSERS and hearing about teams LOOSING. Laugh or cry man.. Laugh or cry.

OtherOne - they always show him when he's eating because they can't find a time when he's not! He is second only to Peter Zezel in weight gained since retirement, I'm sure of it!

Oh, and write it on your calendars folks: On this day, I predicted that the Stars will be next season's Most Disappointing Team. The expectations will be way too high, considering they did more than they ever should have...
