Story behind Barkley's gambling debt

Steve Wynn has some advice for Charles Barkley. "He has to pay attention to his business like the rest of us in this world," Wynn told the Sun on Tuesday. "Because we're a celebrity, we just don't get to ignore people." Wynn Las Vegas President Andrew Pascal said Barkley had stayed in contact with the resort, and company officials initially believed he would repay $400,000 in markers extended to him in October. But about two months ago, Pascal explained, the resort stopped hearing from Barkley. Under Nevada gaming regulations, casinos are obligated to take measures to collect gambling debts. Barkley isn't totally out of trouble yet. He still owes the district attorney's bad check unit, which is handling the criminal investigation, a 10 percent fee -- $40,000 -- before it can drop the case. The fee is required by state law to help support the unit.

Who cares about Wynn's advice? Barkley had forgotten to pay his debt, and now he has made up for it and paid it.
Compared to $400K, all that's left is the $40K fee, which is pocket change to Barkley. Just get Charles to pay that remaining amount, and nothing more needs to be said.

Let's see, the DA's office gets 40 grand to collect for a casino. What were they going to do next, break Barkley's legs? Blackmail is a real nice use of the taxpayer's resources. Let's lay odds on whether that money goes to a homeless shelter or to cover the "expenses" the DA incurred while calling every newspaper in America to smear Barkley. I guess it only stays in Vegas until you don't pay off your tab quick enough.

How long does the media intend to milk this story? He owed it, he paid it....next case.

For all you Barkley butt-kissers...

There wouldn't even be a story, a $400K gambling debt, or $40K collection fee if Barkley had simply done what you're supposed to do when you stupidly run up a gambling debt in Vegas.

PAY THE DAMN BILL!!!

My mortgage company isn't "smearing me". Neither is the bank that holds my auto loan. Oh, that's right! Why would they even need, or have an opportunity, to "smear" me when I make my payments on time?

If this debt is just "pocket change" then why didn't he just reach into his "pocket" and pay it? Answer: Because he's a jack****!

You guys can go back to shining Barkley's shoes and licking his behind now!!

Gee! He paid $400k out of $440k so far, and they're still dragging him through the mud! Sir Charles deserves accolades for the way he's handled this.

Winn is probably doing this for advertising.
