Running back Ryan Grant did not participate in practice because he has not signed his exclusive rights tender in hopes of getting a long-term contract. But Grant said he feels progress has been made and he expects a deal to be done by training camp. "I'd say that things are going good," Grant said. "We're on track. There's good communication. I'm here, so that means that there's very good communication." Grant, who rushed for 956 yards as the primary rusher in 10 games last season, has been working out and attending meetings.

Would he expect a new (lower) deal if he spent last season as a benchwarmer? Inquiring minds want to know.

um...no. but the fact is, he wasnt a bench warmer and was in fact an elite rusher. Almost a 1000 yards in 10 games is pretty damn good and warrants a hike from his current 300 grand salary.

Great another Javon Walker.. do it for more than a year then you can ask for money.. he may have had a good year but lets see how good he can be now that the opposing defenses have tape and know what to look for now.. WIth farve gone you'll now see that defenses are going to load up on the run and i don't see grant duplicating his numbers from last year just my opinion..

He's a good player with a lot of character, but he should play another year before trying to get a new contract. He should also remember that he was a practice squad player before the Pack gave him a chance. And after he nearly fumbled away the game against Seattle, the coaches showed a lot of commitment to him by continuing to feed him the ball. One more productive year and I think he has a right to ask for more $.

"Would he expect a new (lower) deal if he spent last season as a benchwarmer?"

That's just a stupid comment. As one of the better running backs in the NFC and a starter, he has a right to think about his contract when he's basically earning the league minimum.

One hit wonder. Guy won't do jack without Favre. ARodg scares no one.

May 22, 2008  02:58 PM ET

His name is Favre

May 22, 2008  03:02 PM ET

Without Lefavre he wont have the same numbers next upcoming season

May 22, 2008  04:39 PM ET

I think all running backs should - SHUT UP - and play the game !!! I don't hear your offensive linemen "crying" like you guys all the time - and they do MOST of the work !!!

May 22, 2008  07:03 PM ET

Let me get this strait now, The guy who was not good enough to beat out Jacobs, Bradshaw or Ward on the Giants wants a big pay day???
He looked pretty ordinary in that last play off game.

May 22, 2008  07:32 PM ET

Ryan Grant is not an elite back. Trust me. I watched him play at Notre Dame and he did the same thing. Looked good on a couple of runs per game, but looked average the rest of the time and fumbled at times. He was then beat out by Darius Walker his senior season. He piled up yards the second half of the season last year because teams were playing the pass. If he can produce the next season, or even two more seasons he should get paid. I just don't think he will.

I love the Pack, and I love Grant, but I agree with you guys. His production warrants more than league minimum, yes, but he has to prove he can do it as the premier back with another full season under his belt. Is it possible that he's afraid that now that defenses have tape on him, he may get clocked (possibly injured) and he'll be left without guaranteed money and millions to hold him over for a while?

May 22, 2008  11:24 PM ET

I think I'd be surprised if Brandon Jackson doesn't emerge at some time this year - he has the real long term goods among this grouping - regardless of what Grant did. I think RG's a decent back, but he's I think more like a Chris Brown type back - decent speed, upright runner, will be fragile, and not get the consistent tough yards. I like Jackson a lot, and I think the cream will rise to the top - and being a skins fan, I could care less...just an opinion

May 23, 2008  06:00 AM ET

He should expect.....some hurting. Soreness, bad back.....all the stuff that makes a football player great. I expect to win the lottery....yes, millions. I want to sleep with Jessica Biel and Ivanka Trump. I want world peace.

May 23, 2008  09:06 AM ET

One year wonder. Wants to get paid now because he knows he'll be nothing without Favre.

May 23, 2008  09:12 AM ET

He will be nothing this season and - it's just me or this guys fumbles like crazy!!

May 23, 2008  10:41 AM ET

Ryan Grant deserves more money. The Packers know it and are dragging out the inevitable so as not to set a precedent of rolling over too quickly. It's the business part of football. It only makes sense for Ryan to be the top paid back on the team.

May 23, 2008  11:29 AM ET

$300k is a back up salary. Grant is a starter. You don't have to give him premier RB money, but he's earned a very big raise.

Will he be as productive as last year? Probably not. Has he earned a $2 million a year salary? Absolutely.

Don't know what he's asking for, but guys on here implying that he should carry the ball 300 times next season for $300k are out of their minds. He's earned a new deal.

I agree with most of you. Except for the ones say is a one hit wonder the Giants already had Three different types of backs big medium and small (quick) they had no need for Grant. Packer got a steal! Grant has instinct more than all of the Giants RB's and that is what you need as a RB and a good line aviously. Take Dead is the most correct he deserves more maybe a bonus clause! a very good one!
