Bulls pick attracts big-name coaches
Before Tuesday night, it appeared the Bulls' coaching vacancy would be filled by someone without NBA head-coaching experience. But coming away with the top pick in the draft lottery might change that. Big-name coaches Avery Johnson and Jeff Van Gundy, both of whom seemed content not to coach next season, might have a renewed interest in the Bulls' job now.

I'd say interest in the coaching vacancy has increased since Tuesday.

LA Fans, you have to feel good about that win last night. I thought your team looked great letting our "old" team go up by 20 points. I thought the way you booed your own team showed lots of class. Yes the Spurs let one slip away, but abusing the home team on their own floor I am pretty sure that the Spurs feel like they own you. Hey LA should have won that game, well rested against a team with little time to recover. Imagine what will happen when the Spurs have time to prepare.
I'm sorry, I still cannot understand booing your own team. that was pure class LA pure class

Class maybe, but it goes to show that the Spurs winning a back to back crown is like saying that Isiah Thomas is a great coach.
They can win the ring for a million times but never will they defend it.
Sorry Spurs fans at least you have won the championship more than once already.

I'd go with Van Gundy waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before going with Johnson (whose job offers have suddenly vanished, hmmmmm), but isnt Mark Jackson the lead candidate

Is Avery Johnson really that good?
When he took over the Mavericks after Don Nelson
it was basically a turn key operation.
Yeah he got to the finals (and lost) then had a great 67 game win season (then made history by being beat by the #8 seed)

Avery killed that team slowly after winning 67 games he psyched out his own team by modifying the line up of the #1 team in the league to accommodate more for a #8, its the other way around idiot, he also took the offense for granted, this year their offense was nowhere where it was in the past, he convinced Dirk to shoot less threes, he also was trying to make Howard the #1 star on the team so he made him take more shot even tho hes more of a #2 star that drives to the hoop when people are distracted double teaming Dirk or creates his own lanes but no, he couldnt even pull him when he was missing 5,6 baskets in a row against NO for a much more effective Brandon Bass that NO had a hard time stopping
Avery does not know how to identify matchups or make the right adjustments, in the 06 Finals, Riley realized how the Mavs played after 2 games and school Avery at coaching, Avery the real genius that he is double teamed Shaq and let Wade run loose, when it should have been double team wade, hack Shaq
The Kidd trade didn't go better cuz Avery didn't give Kidd control of the full court, he forced him into a half court set, basically running the same isolation play over and over, when Kidd was able to do his thing both Dirk and Damps # went up
He also had the team out of shape, they got gassed at the end of games
Avery is not a proven coach, dont let his accomplishments fool you, he took over a team that Don Nelson had been getting better and better and was going to keep getting better, they still had the Nelson mentality in the past 2 years (since Del Harris was still an Assistant) this year, Avery had Paul Westphal as an assistant but apparently he never listened to him

Avery Johnson has coached the Mavs to a 194-70 (.735) record. Imagine what his record will be with Rose or Beasley.

The Bulls should hire AJ. He'd turn that team around quickly. If the do, look for them to come out of the East in 2-3 years.

How many championship teams have Johnson or Van Gundy coached? None. The Bulls should look for a proven winner or at least someone with a hunger to succeed. If either Johnson or Van Gundy were to go to Chicago, we would see another Houston or Dallas. Give me a break.
How about trading the #1 pick to Miami for the #2 and Pat Riley? LOL.

You are 110% right about Avery. You actually understand the game and know how the game should be managed. Avery is a good coach but did not knwo how to adjust when it counted the most. I think the players just made him look better because of the wins. He should have had better game planning and not be so monotonous w/ everything. Other teams know what the Mavericks' plays are and even call the play themselves. There was comment from some player that CP3 and Shane Battier knows what they are going to run. This is no excuse. Avery should have known better and should have adjusted faster. He should know when to double or just play man to man straight up. He does not know what works anymore. His offense is very stagnant and always relying on jump shooting.
But still Avery would be the best available coach for Da Bulls. He does know both offense and defense which is a balance the young Bulls needs.

To answer your question there is none. They are both playing in the West right now so that would be a stupid question. There is nobody out there who has a championsip ring other then Phil, Pop, or Riley.

Like I said, those two have none. I can't see Pop or Phil moving so how about bringing in Riles? Surely the Bulls have a better team than the Heat.

Avery isn"t the idiot everybody seems to think, just as Dirk is not soft. Avery was pretty much trapped into the Kidd deal, after spending his coaching effort on developing Devin. NO's success at nearly unseating the (gulp) champion Spurs gives some credence to the entire Mavs team. Yes, it got infuriatingly monotonous watching the Mavs run the same ineffective play over and over again. The Hornets were a buzzsaw, just like the Warriors last year. My point is that AJ will be a great coach for a young, learning team like Da Bulls; his hands were often tied by decisions from up above with which he did not agree. Even better if he gets Head Coach and some sort of management decision-making authority. Cuban and Nelson subjected him to their knee-jerk reactions, and destryed the "big picture" plan he was trying to implement with the pieces in play (Devin and Diop).
