Heat may pass on Beasley

Heat president Pat Riley created a buzz after Tuesday night's draft lottery when he strongly suggested Miami would trade the pick if the right deal came along. At least five lottery teams picking behind the Heat -- including Seattle, Memphis, New York, New Jersey and Sacramento -- would have interest in acquiring Michael Beasley if the Heat is serious about making a potential draft-day trade.

Sounds like a dumb move by Riley. The Heat should keep Beasley and build with him for the future.
But, perhaps Riley is thinking only about the present. After all, he's getting old and will retire from basketball soon, so maybe he wants a last "Hurrah" before taking his final step away from the sport.
After all, he does have some good players like D-Wade, Marion, and Haslem already in place, so maybe he feels that he can make a run while the East is still relatively weak.

Report Offensive CommentHe cannot make a run with his current team.. he does have talent but needs a couple of key positions upgraded. I do think he has had a great career but the heat need a change in leadership and he only hurts the team by still coaching.

Report Offensive CommentNow if they Can Trade the #2 pick, Haslem and Blount for like Bosh and TJ Ford then maybe its worth considering. Anything else would be a waste.

Report Offensive CommentWhen you have a player like Wade, a few years removed from a finals MVP, you at least have listen to some offers. If you can get say Elton Brand for the pick then I think you make the deal because a Wade-Brand team is dangerous in the East especially if they can keep Marion. You think if the Lakers were in this position they would ask Kobe to wait a few years while a 19 year old rookie gets his feet wet?
At the end of the day however they will find keeping the pick is better than any deal they can make but you need to keep all options open.

And who put the team he was coaching together??? Riley did. He has no one but himself to blame for the talent, or lack of, this team has. Van Gundy would have gotten a championship with that team as well. Riley saw they were poised to make a run, so he pushed Van Gundy out the door. The guy is a snake. I'm glad to see the team he put together and had to coach had a pathetic season. Riley is overrated as a coach. I didn't see him making all his players better with all of his wisdom this year. What happened?

Report Offensive CommentLA Fans, you have to feel good about that win last night. I thought your team looked great letting our "old" team go up by 20 points. I thought the way you booed your own team showed lots of class. Yes the Spurs let one slip away, but abusing the home team on their own floor I am pretty sure that the Spurs feel like they own you. Hey LA should have won that game, well rested against a team with little time to recover. Imagine what will happen when the Spurs have time to prepare.
I'm sorry, I still cannot understand booing your own team. that was pure class LA pure class.

Report Offensive CommentThis is just Riley postiuring to see what he may be offered. I have no confidence in his personnel decisions, but I really don't think he's that stupid. Having said that, I think Lopez is a much better choice for this team. Even if Beasley turns out to be a 20-10 guy next year, without a center, the Heat will be a lottery team again. They will get no guarantee from a 65 year old Alonzo Morning, and they have nothing else to speak of as a back-up. Haslem, Marion, and Lopez make a formidable front line from which to build, and you may still get quality minutes from Morning. I've said before. Lopez will turn out to be the best pick in this draft. If you think I'm wrong, watch him turn the Supersonics into next year's Trailblazers. You cannot TEACH 7 feet.

Report Offensive CommentJason is right on point. The worst move the Heat could have made was allowing Riley to go back into the front office. His personnel moves are what got them into this position in the 1st place. Riley is grossly overrated.

Sort of like San Antonio fans chanting Robert Horry's name while an opposing player was writhing on the floor in pain thanks to Robert Horry's questionable sportsmanship?

Report Offensive CommentClass maybe, but it goes to show that the Spurs winning a back to back crown is like saying that Isiah Thomas is a great coach.
They can win the ring for a million times but never will they defend it.
Sorry Spurs fans at least you have won the championship more than once already.

Report Offensive CommentI have no problem with them passing on Beasley as long as they get some good value in return. It depends on the deal that Riley makes.
