White Sox-Angels deal in works?

White Sox general manager Ken Williams chose his words carefully. On one hand, there has been increased speculation that his interest in Angels infielder Chone Figgins has grown. On the other hand, he knows the reality of prying free a player like that in a trade right now is all but impossible. A source close to the situation said that Williams started sending out feelers more than two weeks ago to teams that had leadoff hitters also capable of playing second base -- at least all the teams that don't have Brian Roberts on their roster, because that bridge was crossed back in the spring, and Baltimore is asking for everything that's not nailed down in return. But the hot name? Figgins.

Good luck. The Angels will want a boatload for him too.

Figgins is truely a hard nosed, give-it-his-all kind of player. He would solidify the rough ChiSox infield, improve defense and give the Sox a true leadoff hitter again. He would fit in well at 2B.

Didn't they get Cabrera for Garland... HA. That means they could Figgins for, say, Crede. Now that would be fun T&R to comment on.

Yeah right.

May 22, 2008  08:30 AM ET

Will not happen...

May 22, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Agreed - This will not happen...Nasty Rumors...

No!!!!! Figgy is one of the best utility players in the game. Infield or outfield, you cannot replace a player like that. Mike, say it ain't so!!!

Do any Angels fans have any insight on why the big-market Angels would want to unload a guy like Figgins? Is there a similar player in the farm-system pipeline?

May 22, 2008  10:51 AM ET

this story will be dragged on for a month or two with no result. ken williams overvalues all of his players ,and unless he gets vladimir and cabrera in return he does not have the balls to pull off any trade without being completely lopsided in his favor.

Figgins would be a great addition to any team. The Sox are hot now and they need a real second baseman, so who knows. I doubt this will happen.

make this happen Williams you schlep!

May 22, 2008  12:02 PM ET

May 22, 2008  12:09 PM ET
