Granato's strange Avs reunion

For the second time in six years, Tony Granato on Thursday was introduced as the head coach of the Avalanche, taking over for the man who replaced him four years ago. If it was a surprise to the rest of the hockey world that the Avs would promote the same man they demoted four years ago, general manager Francois Giguere is not concerned. "He was my first choice," said Giguere, who parted ways with coach Joel Quenneville by mutual agreement earlier this month. "I'm convinced today that Tony is the best coach for us." Technically, Granato was not fired from his first head-coaching position, which lasted from the early part of the 2002-03 season through 2003-04.

He's always been a classy guy, doesn't rock the boat, etc., I just hope he's not being set up for failure on a team that will likely be doing some "roster shuffling" (rebuild is too strong a term) this off season. Smells of Ed Olczyk in Pittsburgh, if you ask me

Sounds like you're saying the Pens stink, if you ask me.

He might be ready for the head coaching job now.

BTW, if I was Francois Giguere, I would be looking over my shoulder. I think Tony will make GM some day in Colorado. A good one too!

If Francois Gigure looks over his shoulder...He will probably find bostongm stalking him.

They did when they hired Eddie O out of nowhere to coach a team with no chances of winning, Bauner

I like Tony. He's a good hockey guy and a classy individual. He's also been loyal to the Avs. And DCruiser, you might be right about that. He's got the right mind and personality to do it.

And .... he looks like James Bond in this pic!

I think the Avs are in trouble talent wise. Young guys are going to really have to step it up.

Forsberg was a waste of time (no matter how great he has been).

Sakic is on his way out.

Foote is long in the tooth.

Goaltending is an issue.

And Granato doesn't have enough coaching experience to make a difference.

I see flashes from that talent but not enough just yet. And they seem injury prone. Sakic has carried the team for a while now.

The glory days of the Avs are long past. I can't see this current mix getting it done. So I suppose Granato is as good as anything else in that respect.

As long as they keep beating the Canucks I'll be happy.

I agree, but people get caught up in forsberg. He did only play like 10 games, but he also got 15 points or so in those games.

Stasny, Svatos, Wolski, Leopold, Hlinka, Jones are all young and have good potential and we just signed T.J. Galiardi who had 72 points in 70 WHL games and he is only 19. I think those names will be big in a couple years.

Defense is the problem.

sorry, 70 points in 72 games.

Thing about Forsberg is you count on him and he doesn't dress. Or plays the game on one leg. His style of play has worn him out.

As great as Forsberg was, I've only ever seen Bobby Orr play at a high level on one leg. And that was only good enough to be MVP against the Russians in 1976. Sadly, the only time he faced them.

James Bond?! HA! The only REAL Bond was Sean Connery.
