Dallas Drake lives in the Traverse City area during the off-season, and his wife and children have stayed there the past year while Drake has been in Detroit. Drake most likely will retire after this season, but long playoff runs have a way of making players feel full of energy. "Have I considered retirement after the year? I'm not going to lie to you," Drake said. "It's run through my mind. ... Whatever happens, you know, sometimes it's a little bit out of your control. But you play hard most nights, as this team does, you give yourself a chance to win."

well, he's old, and he played a physical game for all those years, so wear and tear has to be there. Also, its always nice going out on top, as a Stanley Cup Champion

I agree Bos..
I agree Gocan, it is nice to leave on a high note.

Mike Lange, the announcer for the Pens with unfogettable quotes had one I was thinking about yesterday....
One of my favourites was...
"He was beaten like a rented Mule." Spoken after a Penguin goal was scored.
Baun-ded has taken it upon himself to put a different spin on this for all the Detroit fans...
Franzen has just put the puck behind Fleury to clinch the series in the Mellon arena...
"Oh no! This time it was Fleury who was beaten.. BY the rented Mule!"

Good warrior, Drake is, but won't be difficult to replace. He's earned a good retirement. Adieu, Dallas!

That was great Biminator...whacked one over 317 feet...and signed up.
LOL...re whacking a Penguin...hahahaha

May 23, 2008  10:07 AM ET

Drake is a warrior.......pound for pound, just as tough as any guy I've seen play in a long time......

May 23, 2008  10:11 AM ET

One of the few times i read the whole article...still looking for the part where he said he was "likely" retiring.

May 23, 2008  10:26 AM ET

Come on Peter...when did you learn how to read?

May 23, 2008  10:37 AM ET

Right after my third bowl of the day...

The cereal box...hahahaha...good one.

May 23, 2008  11:05 AM ET

He's been a solid player for a long time. Tough to watch him leave. Now if only Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, and Lidstrom would sign contracts to play in Europe next year...

Hey baun ded I believe he meant third bowl of weed

The intensity with which he plays is a refreshing change from all the silver spoon fed players out there. This is a man who gave up his body to the betterment of his TEAM. I was sorry to see him traded all those years ago, but I am happy he returned. When he was originally on the team, i liked his intensity so much I named my son Drake. When I tried to get my son to play hockey he was dead set to not set a blade on the Ice. When I asked him why he refuse to get on the ice he stated he was afraid to be traded to another family as Dallas was traded from the wings.

The great Dany Heatley could use an extra large dose of Drake's testicular fortitude.

Guys like Drake are not really a dime a dozen. Most teams need more of them. Somebody has to cut the wood. Do the dirty work. Not enough players are willing to accept this role and produce day in and day out.

joeford...You're probably right...WHAT did I just SAY!!!!

I hate him, but I'd hate to see him go. Heart and guts kept him in the NHL a long time. I love watching guys like that succeed.
