After leading the Hornets to their best season in franchise history and being chosen the league's Coach of the Year, Byron Scott is seeking a contract extension that will put him among the six highest-paid coaches in the league. Serious discussions began Wednesday morning between Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower and Scott's agent, Brian McInerney, who is said to be seeking a deal of about $5 million annually.

I guess that's why Scott is showing 5 in the pic...

He'll get it, hes done a great job

I think is request is reasonable.

I'm not saying he's Phil Jackson.......
But look at his resume-
he's Significantly under-respected......
(not under-rated, he did win coach of the year)

Show him the $, he's earned it
coaching in NBA is not about xXs & O'x........it's about getting your team to win/overachieve...he's done that

I don't think he's Phil Jackson either, which is why he should get a raise; Scott actually coaches.

We will keep Scott, CP3 and the rest of our Hornets. Watch out next season.....CP3=MVP

Scott is a proven winner, both as a player and a coach. If the Hornets were smart they would "show him the money".

He's done more as a coach than Avery Johnson or Mike D'antonio. It's time he gets recognized for his abilities and is compensated accordingly.

Next year with Portland on the rise as well, the West will be even tougher.

"Byron Scott he's your man - you want to keep him - 5 million can" !!!

Byron, come back home to L.A. son. After PJ retires as the winningest coach in NBA history. Then you can win championships in the city where it all started for you with your star LeBron James!

GIve him the Money he deserves it. Excellent coach and deffinately among top 6 in the league. I am not just saying that because I am a Laker Fan but Scotts resume is impressive.

Hey Eli,

Have a Spurrific Afternoon leading up to the game. Then we will see if it is going to be Spurrific or Lakertanstic. LOL

Hmm.. Brian is another Avery. Got outcoached by Pop. You can't tell me that West/Chandler couldn't handle one Duncan?

May 23, 2008  05:07 PM ET

Props to my cousins!

May 23, 2008  07:50 PM ET

Pay the man. He deserves it.

May 23, 2008  11:12 PM ET

Greedy motherlover.

May 23, 2008  11:12 PM ET

But yes, he does deserve it.

May 24, 2008  01:39 AM ET

This is a no brainer. If any coach in the NBA deserves a raise I can't think of anyone more deserving than Scott. The Hornets are a force to be reckoned with for years to come with their lineup.

Coco,

West and Chandler were probably outplayed by Horry and Duncan (you have 5 players on the field and 7 on the bench, if you know what I mean).
That's youth vs experience.

They will really dominate in a couple of years. That is if the team
won't suffer any major changes.
