O.J. Mayo and agent Calvin Andrews have severed ties in the wake of accusations that Andrews' agency provided improper cash and benefits to a close friend of the former USC star guard. Andrews is vice president of Bill Duffy Associates Sports Management, which faces allegations by former Mayo confidant Louis Johnson that it provided more than $200,000 in cash and benefits to Los Angeles events promoter Rodney Guillory, a portion of which was funneled to Mayo. Mayo and BDA have denied any wrongdoing and Guillory has been unavailable for comment.

This is probably best for BDA. They don't need bad press when they're probably still trying to get other players signed to them.

ORLY? If OJ did nothing wrong, then his agent didn't do anything wrong, right? So why the change if you are innocent? If anything, this move just adds fuel to the fire.

And just how pissed do you think this agent/agency is now that OJ has screwed them over?

This is a great slow mo train wreck to watch. Still hope OJ gets drafted by the Clippers!

May 23, 2008  07:58 AM ET

Forgot to add that I hope BDA admits it paid Mayo and then sues OJ MAYO to get back the money it lavished on him and provides proof that OJ knew full well what was going on! That would be a great twist to this story.

OJ Mayo did what 95% of teenagers would do in that situation. Of course he knew what he was doing. The people who need to be punished are the ones who chase these kids when they're in 8th and 9th grade. Most kids who have nothing growing up, are going to take the first hand out they get. They need to go after the adults who target these kids hard.

May 23, 2008  08:09 AM ET

jj, agreed. Blame the vultures.

But it's ironic that the agency that's had him on its payroll is going to get screwed out of their payday. Karma, if you ask me.

May 23, 2008  09:29 AM ET

Shouldn't OJ Mayo stories be under the "NBA" heading now? We can all stop pretending he's a college student now, folks.

May 23, 2008  09:36 AM ET

Was Mayo ever a college student really? Or just a kid who played ball at USC for $30,000?

May 23, 2008  10:32 AM ET

Let the kids get paid off- their earning potential might only be based on their POTENTIAL as a teenager- why shouldn't they try and get teh most out of the system they can, while they can?
And besides, the $ doesn't make them better or worse players- it just gets them to specific schools.
How did USC do in the tourney?

Don't ask me about point shaving/ fixing outcomes.... that's TOTALLY DIFFERENT- that's go to jail illegal. There is nothing CRIMINALLY illegal with paying athletes- other than it's against ncaa rules-

May 23, 2008  10:44 AM ET

Good, maybe he'll fall to the Knicks at 6.

May 23, 2008  10:56 AM ET

So who gets paid? The starters or the whole team? Is there a salary cap or just pay what you can? Do all the players get paid the same? No, paying the players is not the right option.

May 23, 2008  11:46 AM ET

the NCAA just needs to admit it's rules are too ridiculous to ever actually enforece with all the money surrounding college sports these days

either actually do something about all the money everyone knows is changing hands or just call the NCAA what it is....semi-professional sports

May 23, 2008  12:47 PM ET

jj - OJ was a student for a year, actually finished his finals after he already declared.

sacked - if rose goes #1, theres a chance miami takes him at #2 to pair w wade.

this is only the tip of the iceberg with this story.

Fight On!

Great twist???

May 23, 2008  03:44 PM ET

I thought that USC would have gaven him an agent. USC stinks

May 23, 2008  04:37 PM ET

"jj - OJ was a student for a year, actually finished his finals after he already declared".

If you believe that Mayo cared about academics at USC, I got a bridge in Brooklyn I wouldn't mind showing you...I know that line is old but that's the best I got.

May 23, 2008  05:47 PM ET

when will USC be held accountable for all these infractions

May 23, 2008  05:58 PM ET

when they prove something

May 23, 2008  06:20 PM ET

Does it really matter which agent he gets? Afterall, aren't they all scum?

May 23, 2008  09:14 PM ET

If your going to site "Karma" then you would have to have Mayo rumture a Knee as he walks across the stage to meet at the Draft. Now that would be Karma! Let him try to sign a huge contract with a ruptured interior ligament.

I would lke to see Mayo refund the Scholorship he was given. I would also like to see The Agent punished as well as USC as you can be sure they were aware that somethng was up and did nothing to stop it.

As for Mayo doing only what every other kid would do, Wrong! There are a lot of highly touted athletes that come out of high school and go to major colleges and actually play the sport and do their school-work and take no bribes. We only see the ones that are caught and I am sure there are more Mayo's out there but they are the minority and should be punished.

Ack! That was Mayo rupture a knee as he walks across the stage. (**^&^^%% Typos.
