Flyers center to recruit Campbell

San Jose's Brian Campbell will be the best free agent out there on July 1. Flyers center Danny Briere is close to Campbell and may be asked to act as a recruiter, in the same way goalie Marty Biron recruited Briere last summer. "I will definitely ask him, if it comes to that, and give him info just like Marty did for me," Briere said.

I would love this. The only problem is $$$. We have some key decisions to make now. Can we sign carter and Campbell? I'm sure if we do this'll be the last we see of smith and hatcher. Hope not but it looks that way

Will there be any free agents left for anyone since The Flyers and the Rangers seem to have everyone coming to their teams?

May 23, 2008  08:36 AM ET

I know, eh, Baun-ded? The Rangers and Flyers are going to have 50-man rosters next season at this pace

May 23, 2008  08:40 AM ET

Campbell will not be a Flyer.

They have too many big contracts with Briere, Richards, Timmonen.... buyouts to make, and resigning Carter.

Campbell is going to sign for 6-8 million/ season, and unless Philly decides that Campbell is worth more than Carter, this is a pipedream.

So, one playoff disappointment walks into a bar with another playoff disappointment...

I wouldn't be surprised to see Campbell wait to see who SJ hires as a coach before he decides if he will re-sign with them or not.

I don't think he's going to Philly. I think GoCanada is right (by the way, when is the bet over?) he'll wait to see who is coaching in San Jose
If Campbell signs in Philly, at least he can blend into the uniform

Flyers can't afford Campbell.
They may look at another offensive D-man with a lower price tag.

May 23, 2008  09:37 AM ET

Hey, Briere! Worry about getting your game together! You sucked during the playoffs. Against the Penguins in particular!

if campbell comes to philly.... start engraving the cup for 09

THAT was the missing piece?

May 23, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Flyer's cap space is pretty much maxed out. Unless some moves are made keep dreaming.

May 23, 2008  10:08 AM ET

homer is gonna make the moves necessary. as a flyers fan i'm glad we lost 6-0 in that final game. It just shows everyone how far behind we are from the "elite" teams (pittsburgh in particular). So expect another busy summer for the flyers, they'll sign Carter no question, and if they can make the right moves to free up cap space and i bet they will, expect Cambs to be wearing black and orange next season.

May 23, 2008  10:09 AM ET

and when i say how far behind we are from the elite, i'm not saying we're bad, i'm just saying we need to be that much better to win.

Speaking of dreaming Durk...Did you know that the Boogyman checks his closet for Gary Roberts before going to sleep?

May 23, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Recently...Death had a near Gary Roberts experience.

May 23, 2008  10:25 AM ET

is that supposed to be funny baun-ded? gary roberts sucks

May 23, 2008  10:29 AM ET

Sweet! Cambell on the Flyers. Favorites out of the East from the get-go. Pens lose Malkin and at least one other offensive stud, Flyers gain Cambell and a healthy Gagne. I'll take it.
