The Mule is back. Sort of. Johan Franzen practiced Friday, after two weeks of sitting out with "concussion-like symptoms," and he did not complain of headaches or say he was proud to be a Penguin or anything like that. So he's almost ready to play in a game again.

May 24, 2008  09:29 AM ET

What a problem detroiters have tonight, watching stones or watching redwings kick ass. its nough for a sports hard on.

May 24, 2008  09:31 AM ET

I just hope he will take some time to heal properly it's a tough injury to fully come back from, and one that could haunt him for his career!! I just would like to know when did he suffer the injury? I never saw any hits he took, nor did I see him take a puck or a stick to the head..I guess it doesn't matter, get well Franz, come back strong, it's going to be nice to see you with the cup above your head!!! GO WINGS GO!!!

May 24, 2008  09:31 AM ET

They'll need him for game two since the Pens will be up a game in the series. I can't wait to see how many Pens fans are there tonight.

May 24, 2008  09:32 AM ET

QUESTION??? Since Downey has not played any games in the playoffs, and say the wings win the cup, does he get his name on it since he played almost 80% of the season?? Just wondering.....

May 24, 2008  10:19 AM ET

Nice to see a little humour in an article. He'll be back real soon.
Every roster player goes on the cup wingsRule. He suffered the injury and still played a few games...scoring!
The cup will indeed be over his head wingsRule...With Captain Lidstrom holding it on a pole like a carrot and riding the Mule around the rink starting a new Detroit tradition.

May 24, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Hey Durk...I heard the Pens are sitting out Roberts and he's a healthy scratch!
That is mistake numero uno from Therrien...many more to follow...stay posted.

May 24, 2008  10:42 AM ET

Thanks Baun... Wasn't sure, because I know in 1999 when dallas won the cup, I thought that marty turco was on the team, tho I believe he was a 3rd goalie, and didnt play a lick, so, thats why he didnt make the grade to get his name etched...I think its funny that if you check out the stars team photo with the ****, there marty is in the background with his finger in the air...what am I even talking about...............Um, who really thinks the pens will win game 1, wow thats a far cry from the truth eh, like Melrose saying that the avs were going to beat the wings...All well thats why we have these blogs, to post our dreams eh!!!

wingRule>..."I know in 1999 when dallas won the cup, I ..."
----------------------
There are still some, that disagree with that statement. LOL

May 24, 2008  12:48 PM ET

baun, i thought you had to atleast play one game in the finals to get your name on.

May 24, 2008  12:55 PM ET

OK OK...when the stole the cup..LOLOL............

Steel, I thought the same thing, tho I thought it was at least one game in the playoffs......

May 24, 2008  12:59 PM ET

To earn the status of getting your name engraved on the Stanley Cup, players must play at least 40 games through the regular season or one in the Cup final. Although not an official ruling, this standard helps dictate those who are considered part of the championship team.

May 24, 2008  12:59 PM ET

So, makes me happy for Aaron Downey, when, not if, we with the precious cup...........

May 24, 2008  01:00 PM ET

Therrien isn't going to mess around with a winning line up. He just had pnuemonia I doubt he is playing shape.

WELCOME TO DETROIT! PENGUIN FANS: the great magician harry houdini died here and although he was handcuffed and tossed over the belle island bridge into the fridgid detroit river, unlike the multitude who proceeded him thru the years, houdini did so voluntarily!, unlike N.Y and the gay coalition's concerns over treatment of homosexual fans attending games, we here in detroit realize the huge homosexual contingency of penguin fans , some of who may visit detroit to root for there team, we assure your complete safety in and around or fine city and as your un-official tour guide, let me take this opportunity to suggest a few sight seeing locations, #1, the "big cast iron fist", although we pride ourselves on being a "gay friendly" city, this is not a symbol for such behavior, it's actually a mold of the fist of the late great boxer "joe louis". #2, an area not to attend is "big beaver road", this area safe to say should be free of all penguin fans. #3, if you'd like to stop by and complement our mayor on the fine job he is doing with our city you can do so by contacting the"wayne county correctional facility" for visiting hours.#4, and finally if your team fails to win while your here and your feeling dejected upon exiting" the joe", just the mere fact that you can find your car with all it's wheels intact, you should be grateful and consider this a highly successful trip, and as always, enjoy your stay!

May 24, 2008  01:13 PM ET

LOL, I thought Houdini died because someone punched him in the stomach.

May 24, 2008  02:26 PM ET

LOL, I thought Houdini died because someone punched him in the stomach.
-----------------
The guy that hit him was Gary Roberts, once.

May 24, 2008  03:15 PM ET

Wingsfan#1, as a die hard Redwings fan let me say that your comments are ignorant and offensive. Your comments about Penguins fans being homosexuals are just plain stupid. Please stop painting the picture that Detroit fans are ignorant and prejudice.

On a side note, Houdini died of acute appendicitis, which had nothing to do with his performance in Detroit (which was at the Garrick theatre and not on the Belle Isle Bridge).

I very much have to agree with bobbio

I agree with wingsRule who agrees with bobbio.
