Cedric Benson was back on the police blotter, but it had nothing to do with boating in Texas. The Bears running back appeared in court Thursday in Skokie to pay a $510 fine for speeding through a construction site on the Edens Expy., according to WBBM.com. Benson also was sentenced to four months supervision for the incident, which apparently happened last month.

Dagnabbit it's tough to slow down those Ferrari FXX's when you hit road construction!

May 24, 2008  08:32 AM ET

wonder if benson will finally produce some numbers in the CFL next season.

May 24, 2008  09:18 AM ET

Benson should stop driving around, and figure out why he hasn't carried the ball like he did in Texas. Benson can't run through any holes to save his life.

May 24, 2008  09:19 AM ET

He wasn't back on the police blotter because of this appearance in court. This was a pre-trial hearing where he could either plead guilty and pay a fine or plead no contest and pay a fine or plead not guilty and take the case to trial. Paying the fine means this infraction occurred BEFORE the boating incident.

To think he'll end up playing in the CFL because of speeding through a construction site is simply ridiculous.

"To think he'll end up playing in the CFL because of speeding through a construction site is simply ridiculous."

yes it is. and you are the only one that implied that.

rest of us mentioned his impending lack of nfl employment b/c benson hasn't shown 1 reason why he still belongs in the nfl. he's rb that can't catch, carry, block, or break tackles in the nfl. why is he going to last in the nfl then? he's adding baggage to his closet at a time when the bears are drafting a rb in the 2nd round.

Speeding? This was the best story they had..

The guy is an accident waiting to happen... clueless.

May 24, 2008  12:10 PM ET

So... What's the last straw??? What ever happened to 3 strikes and your out?

May 24, 2008  12:16 PM ET

Agreed... I think there are so many getting into trouble they have no boundaries.

May 24, 2008  12:39 PM ET

If Benson drove the speed limit there, he would be the only one. They can claim it's to protect the construction workers but that is pure BS. It is revenue enhancement. The construction workers are set apart from traffic by heavy concrete barricades.

Big deal,A speeding ticket! Actually it is good to see him moving FASTER! When you have a car like that, & i have. You cant help it,you just gotta open it up sometimes.Sometimes you get away, sometimes you get caught! This is hardly something worth making a big deal out of! How about more info on how the OTA's are going! GOD BLESS! GO BEARS!!

U.S. GOVERNMENT

Dude, did you ever hear about the "Chicago way"? Well, speeding through any kind of zone - including red lights - is sport around those parts. This is stupid non-story generated (once again) by pinhead journalists. From every other indication Benson's trying to get back on track. Let him try, for chrissakes.

KM is exactly right. If fact Benson's going to get tailgated, horned, screamed at, fingered and probably shot at by just about everybody on the Edens, the Kennedy, the Ryan, the Ike, etc. etc. if he doesn't exceed the limit. You drive those expressways for about 20 minutes and you'll be reaching for nerve tonic. Just bad luck he got caught.

In my state, speeding through a construction zone can result in losing your license. Speding on the interstate is one thing, but through a construction zone is way different. You don't have groups of people working 2 or 3 feet off the roadway in open interstate or highway.

This guy is about as thick as a brick. Anyone still saying "the man" has it out for him?

Where are all the whiners griping about how he's being picked on because of his race???
