Legacy recruits like Miami

The genetics pipeline keeps helping Miami. Besides an oral commitment from Alonzo Highsmith's son A.J. (a quarterback who could play defensive back at UM), Frank Gore told people his junior-to-be cousin Jakhari (a 1,000-yard rusher at Columbus) wants to attend UM, too. Unfortunately, the next James is years away -- though Edgerrin, no joke, already predicts 10-year-old cousin Jeff ``will be a good defensive player. My family is committed to that school."

I believe in bloodlines, after all, it is thicker than water.

Unless you just don't pay any attention to the other D1 schools, there have been a hell of a lot of other schools in the police blotters in the past few years. Any of the schools that contend for titles have their share of "thugs" on the team. You can either have choir boys and get your **** kicked every sat or you can have a few "thugs" and win championships.

Gee, that BS Neeeever gets old. How long are people going to imply that the only college athletes that EVER get into trouble are those attending UF, FSU, and Miami? EVERY major D1 school has had their share of bad apples. Stop hatin' on the Florida schools, your jealousy is showing.

May 25, 2008  06:38 PM ET

i think it funny when people say "Criminoles" . Your right though FSU doesnt really have a lot of bad apples. AJ Nicholson and Parker, but i do thin hes gonna screw up again. Nicholson would have been a beast in the NFL, but turned stupid real quick. Parker i think really blows anyways. Hes not as good as Willie Reid or Chris Davis was at all. Just plays like them at a slower speed and weaker.

People only refer to thugs when it comes to College Football or African American majority sports (Basketball and Football). I go to an SEC college and we have baseball players and other athletes get arrested an cited for criminal behaviors involving alcohol, drugs, and fighting all the time. But people dont call those kids thugs! Its ridiculous if you ask me!

If Miami finds that QB they need out of the 3 they got in camp.... watch out!!!
Obviously Kirby left since he knew Marve would be starting, so hopefully we see flashes of Ken Dorsey and not Berlin or Wright (BUST)

May 25, 2008  11:51 PM ET

Miammi, that's a very interesting perspective.

Fins&Canes, I got to see Marve play in high school and I'll say this: I wish he was wearing a garnet and gold jersey.

May 26, 2008  12:06 AM ET

Of course golfwacko will bad mouth the FLA schools they don't play football in Las Vegas; do they. When I say PLAY I mean PLAY, NOT TRY TO PLAY

May 26, 2008  12:10 AM ET

UM has 3 QB's on campus and a 6'7 QB Taylor Cook who is no slouch ranked in the ESPN top 150.I think he will redshirt in the end b/c he is too far behind the other guys. After Sept 6th UF/UM game we will know where we are

May 26, 2008  05:07 AM ET

I hope Miami goes into the swamp and beats the SH!!!!!T out of tebow and the Gators. I don't care how good of a runner Tebow is, he won't run on Miami like the way he does the "SEC"!!!

May 26, 2008  08:32 AM ET

Miammi: No one cares abour baseball. Football and basketball are the sports people care about and why "thugs" are heard about. It has nothing to do with color. How many people can name the players off the all-american baseball team??

I love it...****e$ think that Miami is such a bad school, but they never EVER talk about USC...is it me or is it everytime i go to a sport website there is something going on "Illegal" regarding USC sports? Maybe the NCAA should go check out whats going on in South California....By the way, Florida and FSU seem to be in the spotlight now regarding kids getting in trouble.

May 26, 2008  09:44 PM ET

Yeah, Preston Parker doing his best "gangsta" immitation is NOT what we needed going into this season. It's bad enough that half the team will be suspended for academic irregularities.

May 27, 2008  12:01 AM ET

Yeah, Preston Parker doing his best "gangsta" immitation

Thug imitation or college imitation? really, I have met very few (self excluded) that did not drink underage or do pot in college.
