Randolph's job safe for now
He's safe! For now. A grim-faced Willie Randolph kept his job as manager of the floundering fourth-place Mets yesterday after meeting with the team's owners at Shea Stadium. "Willie has a contract for this year, he has a contract for next year and I hope he'll be our manager for many years to come," general manager Omar Minaya said at a press conference. ." But the absence at the press conference of owner Fred Wilpon and his chief-operating-officer son, Jeff, after their meeting with Randolph spoke volumes about how shaky the ground beneath the Mets' skipper remains. Asked if the Wilpons had assured him he would remain on the job for the rest of this season no matter what happened, Randolph said, "No, they didn't say that."

Wll no one said that the top of the problem was Willie boy. He just represents the team to the press. The problem is obviously higher. Sure the players need to play better. The manager should get them to play better, but if Willie boy is membling racial crapola......what about the white boys on the team???? The Mets win or lose - I could care less. They should win with that payroll though.

This reminds me of my FBB team... I over manage, lose the week, and have 100points sitting on the bench b/c I'm an idiot.
A different manager brings a different environment. Look at the Rays, Cubs, '05 White Sox, Yankees... And so on. Differennt enviornment doesn't necessarily mean better.

You know it's not good when Minaya gives the "vote of confidence" before the all-star break. Randolph will be gone mid year!

It comes down to the simple fact that Mets are just not as good as everyone thought they were. They have only have 1 offensive weapon and their prized off season acquisition has been average so far. It's fairly simple. It's not Willie's fault. It's the GM's fault for putting this not so good team together.

To say that the Mets have one offensive player is ridiculous. It's fair to say that only one or two players are playing well right now but when this team plays to it's potential, they are more than capable of winning the division.
Santana and the pitching staff will be fine.
The Mets need to extract the lifeless leadership on this team and play with some fire. It starts with the manager and Willie has done nothing since he got here.

The Mets will be competing with the Nats for the last place this year, that is obvious. The Phils, Braves and (shocker) Marlins are the teams in the race. So much for "the big acquisition" of Santana.

Ok, let's go through the lineup
Delgado-Stinks
Castillo-Stinks
Reyes-Average at best (only has speed)
Wright-Best 3b in game
Alou/Whoever plays when he is injured-stinks
Beltran-Average
Church? (RF)-Average
Schneider-Average
There, you have 1 true offensice weapon and some average players. Your team is average. They have been under .500 since May of last year. They are not as good as everyone makes them out to be.

You, like most Philly fans are selling Reyes way short. He's in a funk right now that he will certainly come out of.
Reyes, Wright, and Beltran are all capable of winning the MVP. Church has been pleasant surprise and has been well above average so far.
I'll give you Delgado and Castillo but the pitching staff is still the best in the NL East.
There is no doubt that the tallent is here to win the division but they have to start winning and Randolph brings nothing to the table.

Reyes has been in a 2 year funk. I think it' safe to say he is not as good as advertised.
Your staff is good, but not any better than the Braves or the Phils. The Phils have the best bullpen era in the majors by the way.

Should we remove April and May of this year too?

If Reyes doesn't collapse last September, he's the NL MVP and the Mets win the division so stop with the two year funk nonsense.

I've been an advocate of trading Howard for pitching since last year, but not because he is playing bad. We aren't going to sign him to a long term deal so we should trade him earlier rather than later when he will limit himself to 3 teams that we can trade too.
