Braves uncertain of Smoltz return
The Braves expect to add John Smoltz and Rafael Soriano to their bullpen during the six-game trip that starts Tuesday, but exactly when hasn't been determined. Smoltz had planned to accompany the team on the flight to Milwaukee on Monday night, but manager Bobby Cox said the veteran pitcher had flu-like symptoms and would stay in Atlanta and perhaps make a rehab appearance for Class A Rome before joining the Braves on the trip.

So the Braves bullpen is about to get alot better...
So the Braves rotation is now more suspect...
(*Hint: Trade for Greg Maddux.)

I am huge Smoltz fan and an even bigger Braves fan...I just want him back healthy so he can take his time. It would be great to have Maddux back, but I have reservations about it if we give up too much. I don't want to sell the future for this season alone. Unless we win the WS...then it is okay. :o)

The Braves might have enough starting pitching with Campillo pitching as well as he has at #4 and with the options of Reyes, Bennett, Carlisle and possibly Chuck James for the #5 slot. With a tighter bullpen if they are able to add back Gonzales, Soriano and Smoltz, it helps all of this too......the bullpen has been pretty darn good over the last 2-3 weeks anyways.

John Smoltz is really good, but the Braves made the mistake of letting Glavine and Maddux go all those years back without any sort of backup plan.

The Tim Hudson signing and the Mike Hampton signing was supposed to take care of that, and then shifting Smoltz to starter was the plan to address Hamptons issues.... so you can't say there wasn't a plan..... There is no doubt that Hudson has been an upgrade over either Glavine & Maddux (both up into their 40s), but Hamptonitis is now a universal term to describe ailments that aren'ts in anyone's book.....

I'm sorry, but what is with the "flu-like symptoms" that major leaguers are always coming down with?
Are they all sharing the same cup?
