A member of Red Sox management said he was unaware of a rumor that Runelvys Hernandez, who opted out of his contract at Pawtucket yesterday, would be signing a minor league deal with the Yankees.

Noooooo, say it ain't so Runelvys Hernandez! You said you'd never play for the evil empire! You **** sellout.

Excuse me, I have to go burn my Runelvys Hernandez jersey.

I don't follow either team, so forgive me right of the bat...Is this kid good, and what's the story about his abilities??????

June 1, 2007  10:02 AM ET

Oh no, I've never even heard of him. This is a ridiculous story posted by SI.com in the vein hopes of stirring up more Red Sox/Yankee ****.

June 1, 2007  10:10 AM ET

He does have a vicous look on his face, so that's why I really asked the question. Looks like he is going to jump out and rip someone's head off. Thanks for the help hyperrevue......

June 1, 2007  10:11 AM ET

No worries.

June 1, 2007  10:15 AM ET

Saw him in Pawtucket last Saturday...Yankees can have him, no worries.

A minor deal for a minor player to a minor franchise. Hows it feel to be on the Sox coat tails. All the minor league players they can find wont help now.

June 1, 2007  10:31 AM ET

Hernandez was with the Royals and was a serviceable enough starting pitcher for them until he wound up with a rotator cuff tear and missed most of the 2005 season.

That is definitely one of those rumors that could set the entire Red Sox team in great turmoil, despair, and upheaval. :-o

June 1, 2007  10:36 AM ET

Yes! Now our season is saved!
He only needs 3 minor league starts, then if we pay him 30 mil we can all expect him to win 20 games in half a season. Huzzah!

adam300,

thanks for the correction on Ted Williams the other day. I had gotten confused on things I've read over the years, and again recently, that his lack of friends in the press cost him the mvp the 2 times he won the triple crown.

June 1, 2007  11:30 AM ET

**** you, AllStarz! **** typical Yankees. Think they can just buy all of the other team's best players. You can't buy championships, AllStarz!

Thank you, Runelvys Hernandez, for renewing the rivalry!

If Clemens wins 10 games that's the difference between 80 and 90 wins. Could very well make the difference between the playoffs and an early vacation.

June 1, 2007  11:48 AM ET

Rocket - haha, what?!

June 1, 2007  11:55 AM ET

Rocket: "If Clemens wins 10 games that's the difference between 80 and 90 wins. "

Not true. If Clemens wins 10 games that's the difference between 80 and probably 85 wins. I don't think it's reasonable to assume all 10 wins would otherwise be losses. That number could go up or down...and I think, most likely, it would go down. Clemens is old, and he's facing AL hitting for the first time in a couple of years. Look for him to have a 4.00+ ERA by the end of the year.

The best way for the NYY to start winning is to start hitting. You can't win without pitching, but hitting is also required. Raja is nothing more than a hired gun...a practice the Yankees have been utilizing for too many years now. Johnson? Damon? Abreu? The kids who have come up through their farm system have been more impressive than these mercenaries. Think Clippard and Cano, among others whose names I forget and am too lazy to look up right now.

Just two shiny coppers from a Sox fan.

Signing Runelvys will do the Yanks more harm than good. Does he look a little heavy in that pic? That's because he's FAT--try 250 #s at 6 ' 1" according to the Pawsox roster. Add another 20 pounds to that number to approximate reality. He's a AAA pitcher at best.

How the hell did Phil Hughes get a grade 3 ankle sprain? AP is reporting he'll miss another 4-6 weeks. The Yankees are officially in Hell.

Kcar27 - you have a link to that hughes story?

June 1, 2007  12:23 PM ET

Oh yeah! we got him. You are all in trouble now!
Take that Sox Fans.

The CURSE OF RUNELVYNS BEGINS.................

June 1, 2007  01:19 PM ET

Typical low-life, ****, scrub player

June 1, 2007  01:26 PM ET

He is 25-33, 5.38 ERA, almost 10 hits/9 innings in his stellar 78 game career. Maybe the plan is for him to sleep with Clemens game equipment and get talent through osmosis.
