06:06 AM ET 05.27 | Mike Jarvis is about to begin a four-year contract as men's basketball coach at Florida Atlantic University. FAU will introduce Jarvis, 63, as its coach Tuesday at the Boca Raton campus, a high-level source close to the FAU athletic program told The Miami Herald on Sunday evening. Jarvis' hiring is pending formal approval by the FAU Board of Trustees. That approval is expected to pass. Jarvis has not coached since he was fired from St. John's in December 2003. He lives in Boca Raton, about three miles from the FAU campus. FAU officials believe his hiring will bring a new fan base to the school and increase ticket sales.

He basically ruined St Johns.
He had a few years off to enjoy his $, now he will coach at FAU- & he will make good retirement $.
He is a nice guy- but bad recruiter & average coach - good luck FAU- hope you enjoy remaining in obscurity

This guy was one of the only coaches to keep local talent in NYC. He will be just fine.

Idiot players he recruited, lacking talent
- I grew up a St Johns fan & want them to get better, but he really hurt the school. He recruited terribly & they've never been able to recover. they lose players to pitt....pitt?
I agree the administration wasn't too helpful, but what do they have to do with recruiting? Trying to expand is a good thing- they care about the overall picture- the coach (and AD) are resonsible for the program

excellent pick up for FAU. he's a quality coach that has proven he can win with inferior talent. he's done it a GW and SJU. let's put things in perspective here.....he's not coaching in the ACC or big east.....its the freakin sun belt conf.

He just reached a higher level of coaching and competition than he could handle. The Peter Principal. He is not a bad man, just not the man for a place like SJU. It happens all the time. He was over matched in the Big East.
