Inside Love's NBA draft prep

Since signing on with Impact Basketball last month, Kevin Love's days have been 9 to 5 except that the alarm clock goes off more like at 6. After the weight session, Love has a midmorning snack, delivered by a healthy-eating company called Sunfare that he pays to keep him eating right. Then there's a movement session and a couple of hours of one-on-one basketball. Lunch (delivered), then an hour or so on a treadmill in a room where the altitude is simulated at up to 9,000 feet. A bike ride. A shower. A trip back to Westwood. Dinner and a snack. Delivered. Bed. Alarm clock. "How do I look?" Love asked last week. He looked about 15 pounds lighter and his jump shot was consistent, even at the NBA three-point line. He made 10 in a row at one point.

If he can get in good shape and stay that way, he may be decent..

Sounds impressive. He has had problems with his knees though in the past right? That might scare some teams off.

It sounds like he's working on the stuff that the scouts said he needed to. He had fallen pretty far down in the a lot of the early draft scenarios it'll be interesting to see if he climbs back up.

Good for him, realizing early that it's a job

Unfortunately- best case senario he's a career back up power forward
- but that doesn't mean he can't make millions.......

He could be decent but I'm not sure he will be decent. He could have been a legendary college player if he stayed at UCLA instead of an ordinary pro, that he seems destined to be.

I agree man, this is the type of effort he should have been putting in college ball in the first place,,,I guess $$$ and the NBA dream was more important to him.

You may be right about him being an outstanding college player and just an ordinary pro, but it's hard to blame him for making the jump. He is still likely to be a lottery pick, possibly as high as #5, and he could have blown out a knee in college. He is not a poor kid from the inner city, but I still can't blame him for making the jump. By 2010 he could be a pretty damn good player, and if he had stayed in college he would just be getting out.

Markplace,

I agree with you. There is much more for him to do in college. However, I think he will be a below average NBA player. Some team will have to let him play but it will be because he was picked so high. After a few year I don't think ww'll be seeing or hearing much about him.

May 27, 2008  10:06 AM ET

I hope his first order of business upon being drafted is to ditch that ridiculous wt beard. Looks like Color Me Bad.

May 27, 2008  11:05 AM ET

I don't see him makin any significant impact in the league. just like psycho T these guys will be going up against the likes of amare, KG, TD, dirk, bosh, boozer, brand. He'll be average at best.

May 27, 2008  11:22 AM ET

He will be a decent bench player but not as an impact player. Of course; it will all be determined where he goes.

May 27, 2008  11:31 AM ET

You have to "Love" his work regimine !!!

May 27, 2008  11:48 AM ET

Sounds like this guy is serious about putting in the necessary work to become a solid NBA player - if he's able to gain some speed, he might become better than the "Keith Van Horn" type that some here (including myself) labeled him as.

1. Dirk is soft.
2. Boozer was a predicted bust when he came out - too small, can't jump, etc. Same stuff they're saying about Love.
3. Elton Brand? Where has he been?

All I'm saying is, don't knock the guy before he plays a minute in the NBA.

C-Smith -

I completely agree. We can speculate all we want, but the fact of the matter is that Love will be a lottery pick and awarded millions. This will warrant a shot in the pros. I can't wait to see what he's got.

May 27, 2008  12:29 PM ET

it's a romatic draft with roses and loves

If he was still available with the 29th pick when my Pistons were drafting, I still wouldn't want him.
