Seattle GM: I'm responsible, not manager

07:06 AM ET 05.27 | Mariners general manager Bill Bavasi said Saturday he feels responsible for the team's miserable performance. He said he thought manager John McLaren was doing a good job -- the Mariners are 18-33 after a 6-5 loss to the Yankees on Sunday, the worst record in baseball -- and that the Mariners' problems would be solved when the players began playing up to their abilities. "This is not a field manager issue," Bavasi said. "John has done a good job leading a number of horses to water. Our performance is not related to his work. It's related to (the players') underperformance and underachievement." On Sunday, club president Chuck Armstrong said that Bavasi's job is safe, too.

I guess it all depends on what the mean of "Good Job" is.

It's tough to blame a manager when you have some pitchers in your rotation who have chosen not to pitch to the team's number-one catcher, a situation that has come to light recently.

maybe so on the offensive side, but what about that pitching? it was supposed to be one of the top staffs in the AL. No matter how many bats they add, the pitching is horrid....

step 1 - release Richie Sexon. he is useless. there have to be some guys in the minors that can play better than he is.
