Bulls GM John Paxson met with Kings assistant Chuck Person on Saturday and will conduct more interviews this week at the NBA predraft camp in Orlando. Former Mavericks coach Avery Johnson said he expects to meet with Paxson soon, and Paxson also likely will meet with former Nuggets coach and Mount Prospect native Jeff Bzdelik and Rockets assistant Elston Turner.

As a Bulls fan I'm not sure who they should go with. Usually don't you target assistant coaches of successful teams, I don't think the Kings qualify. Avery Johnson couldn't get the job done with a cast of pretty good talent, Maybe a team of younger guys is what he needs, easier to mold into a system, break of bad habits and with less ego conflicts. Possibly

Hire Avery and get it over with, already.

Paxon is going to try to fill this vacancy on the cheap--which means they probably will pass on Avery. This will prove to be another big mistake. The Bulls "rebuilding" process is now 10 years and counting.

May 27, 2008  11:35 AM ET

I like Avery "the person," but if offense-only Don Nelson can coach circles around you in a playoff series, you're a little over-hyped.

May 27, 2008  11:43 AM ET

duany - that statement is unfair. The Mavs were never built to play any kind of pressure basketball, we all know this. Dirk is the softest player in the game, and that's why they lost. And then this year, management made a BRILLIANT decision to trade away a bunch of young players for Jason Kidd, and somehow Avery Johnson gets the blame?

May 27, 2008  12:58 PM ET

Not a big "Avery" fan, but I think that he will be a good match for a rebellious Bulls team that needs some responsibility and discipline from their coach. And not that silly "no-headband" regime offered by Skiles.

Not a good pickup for the Bulls....... the guy is a player's coach who'd be better suited for more veteran team. good coach just not the right fit in Chicago

Avery requested the trade for JKidd for leadership and experience so that he would not need to continue telling his young PG Harris what to do. Avery does not know how to adjust. Good coach but not good enough when it counts. And you probably don't watch Mavs basketball because Dirk is not soft. He maybe white but he is not soft. Watch the game and you will see why he is the MVP of the team and you'll know why they have won so many games.

May 27, 2008  02:07 PM ET

Dirk is not soft. He ranks in top 3 in free throw attempts every year. That means he takes it to the rim and take a lot of beating. Nobody can guard him one on one. The only way to stop him is to triple team him. Coaches in the league fear him because he is a match up nightmare.

May 27, 2008  02:14 PM ET

Dirk is more goofy than he is soft

Avery is just too hard headed to win it all

May 27, 2008  02:24 PM ET

Avery Johnson is not what the Bull need. The Bulls need either Rick Carisle or Mike D'Antoni. D'Antoni would make the Bulls a top 3 team in the East year in and year out and would have gotten them to the finals and maybe pulled one off. Carisle would have just glued this team together and maybe them no worse then a 4 seed every year. Not sure if he could have gotten us to a Finals but in the east anything is possible. Unless Van Gundy desides to coach again I am not sure if there is a coach out there that will excel the Bulls and help develop Beasley into the down low post scorer this team needs.

May 27, 2008  02:52 PM ET

Given the Bulls record lately, you guys would be lucky to have a coach like Avery Johnson. Avery put his players in best position to succeed. It's up to the players to make the plays.

May 27, 2008  02:59 PM ET

Avery didn't put his players in the best position to succeed that was one of his biggest fault, not being able to identify mismatches and make the correct adjustments

lol at u

LOL right back at you. How many open jumpers did J. Kidd pass up? How many bricks did J. Howard throw up? Where was Stackhouse' game this year? Led his team to finals. Best Record in the league. Scott Skiles did what?

May 27, 2008  03:14 PM ET

please you cant lol at me if you dont have a good point, and im about to turn your argument on you

J kidd is not a shooter, where have you been his last 14 seasons?
kidd gets his points from driving to he basket and free throws

Avery should have sat J Howards ass down, why on earth would you let a player miss 5-6 shot in a row constantly and not sit him down, especially in the playoffs, Bass was much much more effective and Avery couldnt get it through his hard head to put him in more til the last game
Stackhouse was coming off an injury, same argument for J Howard applies here, a player missing that many shots, kills you, bench his ass, who gives a **** what your last name is, even George was playing better than Stack

Avery also left out Antoine Wright out of that series a faster player that was showing that he wanted a spot on the team, but again Avery doesnt trust youth

Dirk led his team to the Finals, not Avery, this is why Dirk is #3 in most 20 point games in the last 5+ post seasons, Avery killed them with his double team Shaq leave Wade run around loosely tactic and again in 07 when he decided to change the starting line up of the best team in the league, totally psyched his own team out

May 27, 2008  03:18 PM ET

You are making excuses for players. I suppose you excuse Heinrich's brick display this season. I suppose that was coaches fault that Kirk couldn't hit the broad side of a barn yard this year. Well, we can respectfully agree to disagree. By the way I can LOL at you anytime I want. Na Na Na Na Na.

May 27, 2008  04:15 PM ET

Im not making excuses for the players, its a fact Stack was coming right off an injury and was not 100%, its a fact J howard was playing like crap, you bench those players cuz theres probably someone on the bench hungry for some action

Avery simply did not do his job right, there are things players dont see on the court, this is why you have a coach, you are basically saying the coach has no influence on the game, players have bad games, when you have a whole bad series you should maybe look at what the coach did and maybe you will find faults with his matchups, assignments ,etc

May 27, 2008  04:38 PM ET

They didn't get D'Antoni but Avery would still be a good fit for this team. You know he can improve the defensive play of certain players and demand enough from the team as a whole to get them closer to getting farther in the playoffs.
