How Dolphins can replace Taylor

As the Dolphins continue efforts to trade Jason Taylor, NFL evaluators offer feedback on what to expect without him: Two team pro personnel directors see Charlie Anderson or Reggie Torbor filling Taylor's projected role as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense, but they have questions about both. The other option would be a 4-3 scheme with Jason Ferguson, Vonnie Holliday and two other starters among Matt Roth, Randy Starks and Phillip Merling.

The Dolphins don't need Taylor, they've got The Tuna now. He still thinks he can make a Superbowl winner out of whole cloth. He's already disremembered his time in Dallas and is probably telling himself it was somebody else's fault.

The fins should consider replacing the Tuna ...

If you're a Dolfan, then I doubt you'll be saying that at the end of this season and certainly not at the end of next. Usually it takes 3-4 seasons until the Tuna swims for other seas.

Another point: If Tuna thought JT was important for the turnaround he'd make it work b/c Tuna is all about winning. He must consider JT expendable.

Who, who, and who? I guess you have to start somewhere. Good for you Tuna, let's see how many people you can alienate this time.

May 28, 2008  09:15 AM ET

It's clear that bringing in the Tuna does not insure a Superbowl win but it's also clear based on his track record that any team that hires him will have a better operation when he leaves

I don't get the whole Jason Taylor controversy but I know that the Tuna does and that's enough for me. Taylor has had years to lead the Dolphins to the Promised Land and did not get it done. Maybe he should just shut his pie hole and do it the way Parcells wants it done.....

How many games did they win last year with Taylor???? Let him retire and use the money to sign FAs still out there that will get you through. There will be a lot of linebackers D Linemaen released by the end of pre season.
Tell him to put on his dancing shoes and move on.

PHINS REPLACE TUNA???....THATS GOTTA BE THE DUMBEST....ANYWAY, TAYLOR WILL MOST LIKELY BE PLAYIN WITH THE PHINS THIS YR CUZ NO ONE IS GONNA GIVE UP A #1 PICK FOR HIM N' THE TUNA KNOWS THAT.

May 28, 2008  09:26 AM ET

replace tuna??? thats gotta be the DUMBEST....anyway, Taylor will most likely be playin with the phins cuz no one is gonna give a 1st rnd pick for him, n' TUNA knows this! It's his way of gettin, Taylor what he wants (a trade), but @ a price no one will pay so he can keep him. From the beggining tuna said, he plays 4 us or he retires

May 28, 2008  10:31 AM ET

joeFIERCE, you certainly don't know Parcells very well. This is not his MO for keeping players he wants. He knows he won't get a #1 for him but he's waiting for someone to overpay. You can bet your a $ $ that the "he plays 4 us or he retires" s*** is just that. Taylor is in a stronger position now that his coach has said he won't be back. The other teams would be smart to sit back and wait for his release. Parcells will not keep Taylor if he decides to show up right before the season starts. Bank on it.

Bill won't be as successful as Dolphin fan is hoping. He doesn't have the dedicated ownership that he's had with other teams. 3 years max. I give it two.

May 28, 2008  10:41 AM ET

Completely agree with comments about letting Taylor go. His head's not in the game. In fact, he's already moved on. Right now, NOT having him on the team is a plus. He's always outspoken and will be constant thorn for Parcells. Getting anything for him in trade - and the Dolphins will never get a #1 pick for him - would be icing on the cake. At this point, if I'm Parcells, I don't want him in camp or near the team. It's over.

May 28, 2008  11:18 AM ET

JT is still stud player and would help any teams defense. the thing with parcells, coughlin, and beliechik is that to them ALL players are expendable. either your on board with the team or your not. to the tuna, JT is not committed to the team so he's out.....i'll guarantee they'll find another player to replace him maybe not with as many sacks but effective. that's what makes the tuna.......the tuna!!

May 28, 2008  11:32 AM ET

Why does he not go back and trade with Dallas again.Give them Taylor for Glenn and a fourth round pick.Terry Glenn is a product of Parcells. That would give Miami a reliable Receiver. He could tutor Ted Ginn Jr and help the Quarterbacks. His contract is smaller than Taylors. Both are at the End of there career.Taylor carrys more wieght with his big contract and he is undecided about quiting football to go into a Holliwood Career.Plus this would put an end to the Taylor suga.Unless you like drama.

May 28, 2008  11:42 AM ET

They will trade Taylor or force him to retirement. The best thing to do is to trade him.Get something for him evan if it's a fourth round pick.If he plays it will become a circus show.Parcels will not stop hovering over him like a buzzard over a dead carques. This has been seen with all the players he has attacked.

May 28, 2008  12:40 PM ET

Regardless of whether or not they get rid of Taylor they need to get Merling a lot of playing time. He is a part of the future for this franchise and unlike QB and other positions early playing time will be good for his development.

The Tuna /Taylor saga proves only one thing. Fins want a #1 pick for a 34 year old player and no takers. But you let Wes, go for nothing 4th rounder to the Pats. Just using the example, to prove the Fins have no clue what they are doing. Tuna shut up, you can win with Jason and please take your medication.

May 28, 2008  03:50 PM ET

This isn't about JT, it's about Tuna maintaining his complete authority.

A pass rusher leading the Fins to the promised land? Last I heard, your offense needs to score to win games, and I don't see JT having a lot to do with that. All he did was put up very solid numbers for a DE last year...you know, his job.

May 28, 2008  04:23 PM ET

The tuna and the fins will work together for a time. Parcells will help improve Miami, they can't get any worse than last year. Not having Taylor slows that process and they just might find that with the improvment from last year will get them as far as the second worst team in football instead of the worst. With or without Taylor there are still be so many holes to fill in this team that I'm gearing up for the 2009 draft.

May 28, 2008  04:58 PM ET

Simple fact ,The fins defence will not be as good without taylor, all thanks to the ego of bildo parcells.
In 2 years tops, dill will jump ship with his pockets stuffed with their cash, and take his man breasts elseware. The only loyalty dill ever had, was to his pocket!
