Celtics captain Paul Pierce wants to make sure his teammates are aware of the opportunity they have in the Eastern Conference finals. With the series with the Pistons knotted, 2-2, Boston is two wins away from the NBA Finals or two losses from elimination. When the team broke its huddle following a lengthy film session and brief on-court session, Pierce sent a message to the team in advance of Game 5. "I told the guys before we broke, 'We got a great opportuntiy. We don't get this opportunity too much in our careers. We got to go out there and play like it's our last [game] because you never do know when this is going to happen again.' " Coach Doc Rivers said his team allowed itself to be pushed around by Detroit in Game 4 and needs to show more physical and mental toughness in Game 5.

You forgot to mention you need a point guard who doesn't look like a kid flailing among men.

da hell wit boston....i hope they get the beat down!!

May 28, 2008  09:22 AM ET

Boston better win tonight or its all over.....

May 28, 2008  09:42 AM ET

Boston's not looking like a championship caliber team. This series looks to go 7 games too.

May 28, 2008  09:47 AM ET

I would love to see a 7 game series between Boston & Detroit a very physical next three games would be good. Does any one recall how so many people were saying the Western Conf would beat each other up that the winner would be worn out by the finals? Could it actually turn out to be the other way around??

May 28, 2008  10:04 AM ET

Glad to see Paul saying that......it's a good reminder for everyone. Boston will win tonight and then take this series in 7.

May 28, 2008  10:44 AM ET

Seriously now, how big of a clich?? is this? We hear the same speech from every player on every team before every game.

In other news, G.W.B is interested in another war.

No problem with this, but I am getting sick of the Celtics always painting themselves as the underdogs. They have three of the top players in the league and a bench full of talented Ring-Wraiths (personal term for 32 year-plus players who join teams just to get a ring before they retire). They finished top in the league. They are in the East. Detroit is missing Billups. They are not underdogs by any stretch of the imagination.

This is the big game tonight, without a doubt. I'm thinking the Spurs will win the next game, but lakers in six. Should be a good series, no matter who wins. I'm thinking Detroit in seven

May 28, 2008  11:57 AM ET

It doesnt matter what he says. Detroit is the better TEAM. If any of the big 3 have an off game they have no chance.

May 28, 2008  12:56 PM ET

Well the 'so called' big 3 have off games every night, especially ray allen. He's been horrible and has no heart. He reminds me of European players when it's time to step up in the playoffs... they fold (except Mehmet Okur). As long as Boston is playing teams like the Grizzlies, they are great. Pistons in 6!!!

May 28, 2008  12:57 PM ET

Hopefully it will go to 7 games again.

Paul, why didn't you make this speech before you went 7 games each with the lowly Hawks and Sixers? Wouldn't that have made more sense, otherwise, I don't think you'd be in this situation right now. Better win tonight Celts or else.

May 28, 2008  01:47 PM ET

Are you sure that message in the huddle wasn't a bloods street gang sign? HAHA!

Having an off day myke? In the Spurs thread you said the Hornets were up 3-1 before losing to the Spurs! The first six games of that series were all home wins.

Here, the Celtics went seven each with the Hawks and Cavaliers, not Sixers.

No disrespect, just FYI!

who cares the winner out of this series is going to end up losing to the LAKERS
NOBODY WILL STOP KOBE FROM MAKING IT A HOLLYWOOD FINISH.

I believe Boston will win but even if it is the Pistons... they both better play much better to beat the Lakers who are playing the best ball right now.
