Briggs backs Urlacher, Benson

Don't be surprised if Lance Briggs wears a No. 54 jersey in support of Brian Urlacher when veteran minicamp rolls around this weekend. But Briggs went far beyond supporting just Urlacher while a guest on " NFL Live" on Tuesday. Briggs voiced some strong opinions about Cedric Benson's May 3 arrest near Austin, Texas, on charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest. Benson disputes the chargers, saying he was not drunk and didn't resist. Briggs continued his campaign for Urlacher, saying that his fellow linebacker needs to be paid. Briggs said he doesn't expect to see Urlacher at minicamp this weekend. Talks between Urlacher and the Bears have not shown signs of progress.

Why would Benson dispute the Chargers? They had nothing to do with it.. I mean the Chargers are way out in San Diego. and he was busted in Texas ...

Mo money, Mo money, Mo money. Ohhhh, if I had only chosen Pro-Football over pro-Foosball. Maybe I would have that $$ problem.

May 28, 2008  09:11 AM ET

How bad is it when Briggs is your team spokes person?????

May 28, 2008  09:26 AM ET

These guys need to stop worrying about being paid and start worrying about trying to get back to being the kind of defense they were 2 years ago. They don't worry anybody right now.

May 28, 2008  09:38 AM ET

"I'm going to support him," Briggs said. "I'm going to support whoever is back there running that ball."

wow. feel the love.

Briggs should jus ****. Somehow getting his big new contract means that he's Mr. Bear now and that he can talk and talk and talk about the team. SHUT UP, LANCE.

May 28, 2008  10:17 AM ET

The deleted part was " just shut the eff up."

May 28, 2008  10:53 AM ET

Yeah no sympathy for Urlacher, you're making lots of cash, just go and play. Players that hold out or do crap like this should be forced to be the janitor at the stadium, give them a reality check of sorts.

Why Not! 3's company, plain pit-full:p

Send his butt to Canada

Briggs and Urlacher combine to make a great linebacking core for Chicago. Briggs knows that without Urlacher his numbers won't be as great. It only makes sense to support him. The Benson situation should be very interesting to see how it is resolved.

May 28, 2008  12:49 PM ET

Urlacher is on the down side of his career. Not saying he isn't great, but he's aging.

May 28, 2008  12:51 PM ET

He knows he can get $$$ because the Bears only hope is getting it done on D. The front office sucked it up this year for getting offensive players. It wouldn't surprise me to see Tom Waddle put down the NFL Network mic and suit up.

What is that saying? "The blind leading the blind" Briggs enjoys calling out the Bears,He is still doing it through Urlacher. The Bears already offered more generous money to Urlacher, even with all the health questions! The ball is in Brians court, not the Bears! Remember when Briggs said he didnt want to be in Urlachers shadow,he wants to be the man! I dont think Briggs would mind if Urlacher got traded.Briggs is still bitter he couldnt get more money,& had to crawl back to take the offer the bears had given him to begin with! These guys get paid to play, not talk! Last thing,Drew Rosenhaus is a greedy frickin pig! Who would sell his own family for a profit! GOD BLESS! GO BEARS!!

May 28, 2008  12:54 PM ET

Briggs: Pay the man.
Bears: Would you be willing to give up some of that money we just gave you to give to Brian?
Briggs: Cut his ass!!!!

Briggs' support of Benson is not suprising. Wasn't it suspected that alcohol was involved in the infamous Lambo incident a couple years ago, where Lance left his $250,000+ import on the side of the road?

Not saying I wouldn't do the same thing, though. Better than a DUI
