Arbitrator rules against Rangers

Perhaps the most dishonorable episode in recent Rangers' history was settled yesterday when arbitrator Richard Bloch ruled that the Blueshirts must indeed pay Bobby Holik and Jed Ortmeyer their respective signing bonuses the team withheld during and after the 2004-05 NHL lockout. The Rangers, the only team in the NHL to withhold signing bonuses during the lockout, have now received two black eyes in losing this grievance one year after losing a $1M bonus-clause-related grievance to Eric Lindros.

I can think of worse things but since it is the no class Rangers, heck with them.

May 29, 2008  08:17 AM ET

Lets see all the well informed posters come and bash the Rangers as a team that tries to buy a cup...even though theres a salary cap.

May 29, 2008  09:23 AM ET

how slow a hockey news day is it when they are running not one, but two stories from The New York Post
And if anything, Lindros should give back every dime he was paid by the Rangers

May 29, 2008  09:43 AM ET

I'm happy for Holik...Rangers tried to pull a fast one and lost.

May 29, 2008  09:49 AM ET

Turn down the money or donate it to charity Holik, you didn't earn a penny of it.

MSG is a slimy organization. I'll admit it. Especially the Knicks who I despise. And MSG does own the Rangers. If you can name one all-around 'classy' hockey organization I'd like to hear about these fairies. Do they kiss cheeks before games?

May 29, 2008  10:31 AM ET

The Red Wings are known as a classy organization. So are the Oilers and Flames, last I checked. Uh, Carolina too, for that matter. Colorado. Montreal (can't blame an org. for the fans' stupid victory celebration after beating the lowly Bruins). Minnesota was, before the Simon signing I guess, but I still think they are. Boston is trying to get there after the debacles Sinden and O'Connell put them through. Need I name more, OtherOne? No cheeks kissed, but I DID shake Gordie Howe's hand and shoot shyte with him for about 10 minutes at the last Wings game I went to. You'd probably shake hands with the wrong end of a switchblade at a Rangers game! haha

May 29, 2008  10:56 AM ET

I could say bad things about any of those organizations, but I won't.

Sure I can blame fans like the Montreal idiots who almost burned their city to the ground after winning a game 7 in the first round of the playoffs. Imagine if they lost LOL! Just like I can't vouch for the 400 slobs @ MSG.

May 29, 2008  10:58 AM ET

I do agree about the Red Wings somewhat.

May 29, 2008  11:24 AM ET

Gocan...I will say this one more time & since I have some perspective, being that I now live in Montreal...
It was NOT the Hab fans that tarnished the post game celebrating after defeating the lowly Bruins.
Hab fans were actually very embarassed about those morons doing that.
As far as you shaking hands with Gordie...(have you washed that hand yet?)
I would have been more impressed if you had taken an elbow.

May 29, 2008  11:59 AM ET

The MSG ownership being dirty animals? You don't say? The actual hockey people aren't too bad and as a season ticket holder I feel we are treated well. We get invited to meet and greets with theplayers at no charge and they sent me some cool gifts last year and I sit in the blue seats.
But, Fredo Dolan and his idiotic staff are a joke and I have no doubt this came from them. They were also the ones who got the NHL angry at them for being the only team to fight all the web sites going through the NHL.
I love the Rangers and MSG (the building itself) but Dolan needs to be thrown screaming from a helicopter. He'll pay Isiah but not Holik (Who they put in a role he wasn't suited for), Jed Ortmeyer (Who dove in front of every shot he could), and Lindros who they shouldn't have gone after to begin with.

Justin,
I agree with most of what you wrote, (especially about Ortmeyer) except for this. I grow weary of all the leagues "controlling their image". This all goes back to Bettman being a moron. If I'm taking Dolan's side in anything, it's bad. Let the teams be on their own. This total control thing is a joke. Let the teams deal with their own stuff

Yea MSG as I said earlier is slime but the Rangers organization is very classy. So much charity work for cancer, autism, and other diseases and their Harlem Hockey program where players like Beukeboom and Graves reward 'at-risk' kids with ice time for staying off the streets.

After they won the Cup in 94 I went to a charity event at The Garden and shook hands with Messier, Richter, Leetch, and many of the others. They were all very nice signing autographs and taking pictures it was awesome. The only one who didn't seem to be having a good time was Steve Larmer. He was just standing alone--I don't think many of the kids knew who he was. I went up to him and shook his hand and he seemed disinterested so I left him alone. He looked like he had somewhere else to be...

Again, MSG organization is partly slime but I don't think so when it comes to the Rangers. Dolan and Sather irritate me to no end.

I'm guessing here, that it's just possible, they might feel the same about you

AFter I got my bill for the playoff tickets I had little doubt Sather and Fredo hated all of us.

May 29, 2008  12:56 PM ET

Justin you beat me to the punchline. The way they charge for tickets nowadays they must want scum like me out or in the 400s nowhere near center ice.

May 29, 2008  12:57 PM ET

Justin what band is that performing? Phish?
