Quincy Carter's last chance

He has been a Bulldog, a Cowboy, a Jet and an Alouette, and even a Bossier-Shreveport BattleWing. Quincy Carter has yet another football identity today -- backup quarterback for the Kansas City Brigade of the Arena Football League. Tuesday, the Brigade activated Carter off its practice squad to back up rookie starter D. Bryant. Kansas City is struggling at 3-9, with issues at quarterback (Bryant's rating ranks 20th in the 17-team league.). Saying his mind and his body are right after spending nearly six months working with former Dallas Cowboys linebacker and drug-addiction survivor Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson, Carter, 30, is attempting to approach this comeback with a very simple attitude. "I'm living a day-to-day life now. I can't take it beyond that," he said, repeating the mantra that was central to his most recent stay in drug rehab.

And with the round two pick ,53rd over all, in the 2001 draft , the Dallas Cowboys take Quincy Carter........( Steve Smith was chosen 21 picks later).
Interesting. What would ahve hapened last year if Smith was the WR opposite TO?
No one could know at the time, but interesting. And on such things the world of football teams turn.

I'm rooting for him. I always liked Quincy Carter. I bought his jersey when he was with Georgia and I really don't care for the Bulldogs but I always liked him.

I still wear that Georgia 17 jersey too. I would have gotten his Jet jersey but I wanted to see if he would stick with the team before I put down money on a personalized jersey (considering the Jets didn't sell his jersey).

I always hoped he would pull through, but his drug problem ruined his chances of even being a backup in the NFL. I guess all I can say is lol Quincy.

I hope the dude gets his life back on track but he was always an also ran just kicking around being below average and he always will be.

PW, he's not in the league. He got activated in the AFL. Not exactly THE league he wants to play in, but a step in the right direction. Hope e works his way back up to the NFL.

What a waste of talent, life, money, etc. If he can stay clean, he could play 5-6 more years in the Arena League but unlikely at a higher level. Too much water under the bridge.

As J Hova, I too was a Quincy Cater fan when he was at Geaogia. I hope he get his life together

May 29, 2008  11:11 AM ET

Just don't let him go to Green Bay....this guy has an issue with snow

May 29, 2008  11:13 AM ET

Yeah, I too hope he puts it all together...be nice if he gets back in the NFL in a back up capacity with muturity...

Where da weed at???

May 29, 2008  11:53 AM ET

I've watched Quincy since he was a star at Southwest Dekalb HS competing against my son's HS team. It was both tragic and sad to see the fall he took after such a promising future. I hope he can make the climb back to decency and respectability.

PW, he's not in the league.

that would be my point.

If he a conquered drugs he has already had a great victory; hopefully he will have a few more. I do have a question about the starting QB, he ranked #20 out of 17 teams, which means two backups are ranked ahead of the starter in QB ratings.

Yeah, this was one of Jerry's more bizarre works. Probably still reeling from the affects of plastic surgery.
