Next step for WVU-Rodriguez case

West Virginia University's $4 million lawsuit against ex-football coach Rich Rodriguez is headed for mediation, with the goal of resolving the dispute by Aug. 1. But WVU attorney Jeff Wakefield says Judge Robert Stone's order is standard, and he thinks it's unlikely mediation will help. Wakefield says the university remains firm in its position that Rodriguez owes $4 million under the contract in place when he resigned in December to take Michigan's head coaching job.

Until this is put to rest, it remains a distraction for both Michigan and WVU.

May 30, 2008  08:39 AM ET

Agreed Keith

May 30, 2008  09:37 AM ET

I think it's more of a distraction for UofM then WVU.

May 30, 2008  09:45 AM ET

RR is going to owe his lawyers 4 mil before it's over with. What a waste.

Field Marshall Sunny Day hit this one on the head. It's almost they want to prolong this, they aren't ready to give him up.

Yea, WVU is like that psycho ex-girlfriend that keeps driving by your house late at night to see if you are home..and calling and hanging up..but NOOOO, she doesn't like you anymore and she's glad you are gone

May 30, 2008  10:46 AM ET

He owes them 4 million, what do you expect WVU to do? Nothing?

May 30, 2008  11:08 AM ET

There is a difference between being owed 4 million and going through the courts to get it, and a smear campaign by fans and administration. That definitely is much more indicative of the ex-girlfriend analogy.

its kinda like when you make up excuses to "run into" your ex, or just happen to be at the same bar...WVU just happens to "need" that money...

Not that I know about any of that ex-girlfriend stuff....

Notice to all Michigan fans this will be a transition year just making a bowl game will be huge.

That being said how is this a distraction?

Next year watch out!

They're going through the courts because it's the only way. He won't pay it. You can't not pay debts and expect a clean rep right?

That being said - i'm by no means a WVU fan. I just don't like seeing Michigan fans saying 'oh lay off, they shouldn't care, not his fault, ect'.

May 30, 2008  01:20 PM ET

As far as WVU fans causing a scene - I agree it shouldn't happen - but there were Michigan fans lobbing JoePa jokes in an article yesterday so how is that any better?

May 30, 2008  01:48 PM ET

He broke a contract and should have to pay all $4 million of it back.

Sounds like someone who is jealous of their friends younger, sexier new girlfriend.

May 30, 2008  02:49 PM ET

The horse is "dead", shoot the damn thing and get this BS over with! Everyone knew about the 4 million when this deal came down. No excuses!

May 30, 2008  02:55 PM ET

Hey Michigan, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

May 30, 2008  04:53 PM ET

Yeah WVU is the crazy ex.
Ask a Michigan fan about Justin Boren and see what they say
