Young: I wasn't going to quit

A recent nfl.com report suggesting he considered retirement after one season was "blown out of proportion," Vince Young said. Heading toward his third pro season, he said he's in a "much different place" mentally than he was at this time last year. Frustrations grew from the off-field pressures that come with being an NFL quarterback, and those were the things he wanted to escape, Young said. He wished he could be like Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison, and just not talk to the media at all.

The future of the Titans retiring....WTF

May 30, 2008  07:46 AM ET

Wishing you could be like a WR and not talk to the media...you are the franchise QB Vince talking to the media is an obligation and you better get used to it. I can't even imagine what the NY media would do to this kid.

The pressure for Vince to perform has to be intense. Unfortunately for him, a card board cut out of a receiver could rival their starters right now.

May 30, 2008  08:47 AM ET

In wishing he could be like Harrison, does he wish he could be involved in a shooting as well?

May 30, 2008  09:00 AM ET

Of course it was blown out of proportion. The NFL is by far our most popular sport. The scribes and talk show morons are desperate for something to blather about.

That picture of Vinnie surrounded by half-naked adoring men was disturbing though.

This is a lesson to think twice before you speak. I doubt Vince seriously thought about retiring. But you cant even make comments like that. Keep them to yourself..

Yeah, this was blown wayyy out of proportion...

just a young guy poppin off at the mouth.

This kid has a great up side...now that he has be in the NFL for a few years, he should be the player everyone thought he'd be...

May 30, 2008  09:51 AM ET

Young has emotional problems and we are just seeing the beginning of it now..he will slowly melt down in the next couple of yrs...mark my words

May 30, 2008  09:57 AM ET

Jeeze, all he was doing was just expressing his human side - news flash, an NFL player actually has fears and feelings!!! What is the world coming to!? These guys are supposed to play football and do NOTHING ELSE!!!

Give me an effing break.

May 30, 2008  10:16 AM ET

I remember when he was in TX, hope he does well in TN....we will see

May 30, 2008  10:45 AM ET

Give him a break. Of COURSE he was not going to retire! That was just him expressing frustration. We all do it. Haven't we all left work on occasion thinking, "Eff it. I don't want to do this anymore." Well...maybe not everybody has a fricking J-O-B, but you get my meaning.

Yes, and having a boat-load of cash in the bank has also gotta be intense. I mean all the access he must have to great cars, houses, the ability to travel....must be really intense...poor guy.

Stay strong VY, you've got some many people rooting AGAINST you.

AAARedskins got it completely correct. Everytime I say something similar to that, everyone acts like I'm Satan.
