Brian Urlacher will attend the Bears' mandatory three-day mini-camp starting Friday, he told the Tribune on Thursday evening. Urlacher has missed all of the team's voluntary off-season activities to this point because of a contract dispute. He has been lobbying for more money than the Bears offered in a one-year extension.

He needs to show what he has. He needs to play a season uninjured!

Nah... Keep him around. He's not overrated. Just pay the man and let him play..

Oh, but sign a pre-nub first.

A pre-nub? Is that a shower joke?

May 30, 2008  07:47 AM ET

I think Urlacher cares more about the lost money he would be fined over than knowing how important mini-camps are.

Smart move by 54. Doesn't help to alienate the Chicago fan. Think Urlacher would be complaining as much if the Bears had obtained an NFL QB this offseason?

May 30, 2008  09:03 AM ET

He would be a good interview on fathers day.....

May 30, 2008  09:12 AM ET

i put him in the same class as those whiny baby wide receivers...me me me me me. don't give him anymore $$!! don't let him come to camp unless he'll keep his mouth shut about his contract or just deactivate him....he's not irreplaceable!!

May 30, 2008  09:17 AM ET

anything over $100000 a game, yeah, shut up and play.

The man can read his tea leaves! Nothing to gain by staying away!

May 30, 2008  11:57 AM ET

I guess being older hurt and a little slower may make him wake up... what a joke.. honor your contract or ship him out.. he should be glad he gets paid and plays..

May 30, 2008  12:19 PM ET

I used to believe as many others still do: you signed the contract, so honor it. But with the Collective Bargaining Agreement structured the way it is in the NFL, the teams dont feel obligated to honor a players contract, so why should the player feel any more loyalty than the owners do? Trust me if Urlachers' skillset slipped there is NO WAY the team would honor a long-term deal; they'd cut him then try to renegotiate at a lower price. Why shouldnt the player use the same tactics?

Good one KpK....agreed here.

Old Bear! He likes the honey!

Don't be surprised if they give it to him after he shows up. Last year they resigned Vasher and Tillman.

maybe i'm way off here but i've never heard of an instance where an organization tries to back out of contract with a player because his skills have slipped.....enlightened me.
not to mention he's trying to get a brand new deal when he's all banged up. as one of the leaders on the team he should show a little integrity and honor what he agreed to....plain and simple.
