Two Penn State football players pleaded guilty yesterday in Bellefonte, Pa., to a misdemeanor charge in connection with an on-campus fight last year, resolving the last of the major legal problems for current team members. Linebacker Navorro Bowman and defensive tackle Phil Taylor pleaded guilty to a disorderly-conduct charge in exchange for prosecutors' dropping more serious assault charges. "You're never pleased to have to plead to anything," said Taylor's defense attorney, Ron McGlaughlin. The players were sentenced to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service by Centre County Judge Bradley P. Lunsford. Taylor, who will be a junior in the fall, and Bowman, who will be a redshirt sophomore, had been kicked off the team while their cases were pending.

It wouldn't be FN if they didn't give you your daily JoePa pic.

When asked if Phil Taylor would be subject to any further team disciplinary actions, Joe Paterno stated, "What? My Phil is not a communist! He may be a liar, a pig, an idiot, a communist, but he is not a porn star!"

The only thing these guys did wrong was defend themselves from drunken frat boys. Joe knows they did nothing wrong. So does everyone else in Happy Valley. The locals know full well how corrupt Michael Madiera is. Too bad these guys needed to plead guilty to bogus charges just to end this nonsense rather than have Madiera start judge shopping like he did with Baker so they can play this season.

If they are any good on the field JoePA will get them back on the team. Spewing the same old crap, they paid their debt blah, blah, blah!

If they weren't guilty, why did they plead guilty, the Duke players didn't?

June 1, 2008  01:13 PM ET

They got in a fight. They weren't into drugs, theft, rape, ect. They'll be back on the team.

June 1, 2008  03:18 PM ET

They didn't just get into a fight, the charges for assault were dropped. A little more serious than the "just a fight" excuse JoePA will employ to get them back on the team!

i love how no calls penn state a bunch of thugs, like they call miami, its just great.

June 2, 2008  08:48 AM ET

Miamis entire team was in a brawl on the field - the entire team. We also haven't had any players shoot or kill anyone.

June 2, 2008  09:35 AM ET

This whole thing is a bit overblown. Who hasn't gotten into a fist fight in college?

Assault charges are the most typical charge for a fight at a bar......idiot

June 2, 2008  07:48 PM ET

Settle down tough guy!

June 2, 2008  11:48 PM ET

"Overblown"...."typical charges"...."bogus charges"....blue & whiters have got the routine down by now.

I have a question. How many years has it been since at least one PSU player has NOT been arrested for something? Even if it is overblown, typical, & bogus.

June 3, 2008  12:37 PM ET

actually....levon chisley DID kill someone. stabbed him over 50 times. Penn State has accounted for over TWO DOZEN arrests in the past 4 years with charges ranging from underage drinking to criminal vandalism to sexual assualt and finally MURDER.

the real issue is how insane you PSU fans continue to be. you "popped off" about renegade programs at oklahoma, miami, fsu etc in the 80's and 90's but you're no better. Paterno just did a better job of hiding it with the help of the "hillbilly media" in state college. you idiots probably believe everything's groovy in iraq because bush's media machine tells you it is.
