Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White is expected to be named the new Duke AD, two sources confirmed for The News & Observer late Friday night. Duke has been searching for a replacement for Joe Alleva, who left Duke for the same post at Louisiana State, since April. White, 57, could not be reached for comment. White has guided the Notre Dame athletic department since the 2000-01 academic year after holding the same post at Loras College, the University of Maine, Tulane and Arizona State.

Like ND or not, White has done a good job at ND while keeping an eye on academics while being firm on athletes that mess up. He has suspended or dismissed several players, and not just on the football team. Duke is getting a guy with integrity and should do well.

How anyone can think the guy who oversaw the firing of Ty Willingham and the hiring of Charlie Weis did a great job with integrity is beyond me. On the other hand, I'm sure there's much worse. He'll fit in just fine in the over-privileged culture that dominates and controls Duke University.

I wish Mr White the best, now ND has the oppuortunity to go out and grab a great AD like Tom Jurich at Louisville! A true AD with intentions of capurting titles!!!!!

Ty was a mistake, and now Washington is having the same problems ND did.

Duke doesn't need ND's Athletic Director, their football team already stinks.

BTW, Duke is a GREAT school with some truly fine sports programs, it was just too easy to pass up a shot at ND.

I'm very glad Dr. White is moving on, sure he did some good things at ND, but I'm ready for a change!! One of the best things he did was let Mr. Willingham go!! He was smart enough not to let Ty finish his 5 yr deal.

Thank you Duke, best of luck Dr. White.

FSU Program is better?

One name should scare Duke boosters and fans; Charlie Weis. How in the world will did that interview go? I sure hope that Duke asked White why he decided to give Weis a huge contract, only to see the football team crumble and hear accusations from Steve Young that the one of the main reasons that Weis was so good in New England was because he camera footage of the other team's defensive signals.

Is Duke any good at anything other than basketball and lacrosse? How is this a move up for him? I do not understand why he would make the move. I only hope that now we can get someone who will move the football program in the proper direction.

Duke can go to hell for how they threw the LAX players under the bus. And before they do, they should call Notre Shame and ask them what to expect down there.

Weis(s) = White in German. It's a curse.

ADs are the face of the school, but they do not have the power to make the big decisions. Only give their thoughts. White was only doing the bidding the real power brokers told him to..He appears to be a class act. That is his real job, appearances, and it will be at Duke..
