Posada eyes Yankees return

There is a chance the Yankees will be whole Tuesday night, and it has nothing to do with Joba Chamberlain making his first big-league start and everything to do with the possible return of All-Star catcher Jorge Posada from the DL. "I am not anticipating it, but I am not 100 percent ruling it out of my mind," manager Joe Girardi said of having the backbone of his lineup ready to play for the first time since April 26 due to rotator-cuff tendinitis.

yankees are done. how is that payroll working out for you, yankee fans?

May 31, 2008  09:22 AM ET

Rocket guy I'm a Red Sox fan and as much as I would want the Yankees to be done they will heat up at some point. Even if they don't make the playoffs this year this offseason their team will be made younger and better.

May 31, 2008  09:58 AM ET

there's only a matter of time before all that talent starts to gel, hopefully it will be too late.

May 31, 2008  11:53 AM ET

rocket boy, after thirteen straight playoff appearances, I'll give them a pass. Uh, which one of your pathetic little teams makes the same claim? I can't hear you son, did you say NONE? Speak up, I can't hear you. If it takes a payroll to make that claim, then pay it. For those who can't, shut up, quit sniveling (thats you rocket boy) and spend the money. If you don't want to spend it, or haven't got it, get out of the business, and it is business.

yes, I'm a Yankee fan-

But facts are facts-
they were in WORSE position last year when the sox were like 10 games in front & they were roughly 7 games oout of the wild care-

will they make the playoffs ? maybe, maybe not....but they are not 'done'
saying so is ridiculous

Like all of us they are also a year older !!! "Time marches on" !!!

it will be good to get Posada back ... and moving Joba into the starting rotation should improve starting pitching but weaken the bullpen ... consistent hitting, Jeter, and middle relief to get to Mo remain big, big question marks ... as well as Girardi's managerial judgment ... Rasner has proven to be more effective than either Hughes or Kennedy, but Cashman has staked his 'reputation' on those two young pitchers, and the whole Yankee effort may go down if he can't acknowledge that they're just not ready/able to do the job

May 31, 2008  02:45 PM ET

Not a chance are the Yanks done. If they keep playing sub-500 ball for the next 2 months, they will be... until then, they need some ppl to step up. Rasner has done great. I'm still a skeptic about having Joba as a starter, but only time will tell. I wouldnt count out any team until after the all star break.

May 31, 2008  04:36 PM ET

Jorge brings a bat from both sides of the plate, providing protection for whoever is in front of him, Joba could be special, a true ace, hughes might turn out ok when he is not pitching w/ busted ribs...yanks will be fine...its just not October w/ out the Yanks...

May 31, 2008  07:15 PM ET

Done???/ you dont know what your talking about!!! remember there is alot of stuff going on this year that hasnt happened in 12 years. theres a new manager, injuries, and more young guys that have to start helping out. you red sox fans should not be paying attention to the yanks right now and start worring abou these RAYS. they are on fire now. dont know if it will last but i think they are starting to believe that they can win the east. somethimes confidence is more valuble then talant.

May 31, 2008  08:27 PM ET

I frigging hate Ching Ming Wang.

May 31, 2008  09:24 PM ET

Actually, "G" it may be the Yankees who have to worry about the Rays. Now the Yanks have extra competition for the division title and wild card spot. ...and 500 ball won't put them in a place to make a run for either of them. (But it's a long season, so we'll all have to see how this plays out.)

May 31, 2008  09:43 PM ET

At this point, the Yanks/Sox rivalry is null and void, since neither of them are in first. Yanks have their fare share of problems and are in fact in a rebuilding period.. eventhough Hank will NEVER admit to it. But the Sox have problems of their own. Dice-K is on the DL and Schilling is doing commercials for HoverRound.. or should be anyway. As long as the Rays are in first, they should be the focus of both teams.

easy there !!!lets wait till everyone is back from injury and and we get the rotation set if we are not going to win the east!!

the Yankees really lost their way when they started overpaying for the "big" names instead of seeking out gamers like they did back in the day with the signings of guys like Paul O'Neill and Tino Martinez and David Cone and David Wells. these guys weren't the best in the game and they didn't come with the huge name recognition but when it came to crunchtime, you trusted these guys to get the job done... especially on the biggest stage. in recent years, it was about signing the marqee name... A-Rod, Giambi, Randy Johnson, etc... none of these guys can come through in the clutch. as good as A-Rod is in the regular season, i bet Yankee fans would have way more faith if there was a Scott Brosius taking those playoff at bats. i bet deep down guys like Posada and Jeter feel the same way.
