Rose predicts 5,000 hits on steroids

According to Pete Rose, if steroids had been widely used when he was playing baseball, "I would have got 5,000 hits." As it was, he accumulate 4,256 of them, more than anyone in the history of the game, one slashing single at a time. He did it the old-fashioned way, studying pitchers, taking batting practice until the shaggers keeled over, and wanting it more than anyone around him. "I'd walk through hell in a gasoline suit to beat you," Rose used to say, and there was no doubt he would.

First...or whatever...

What does Rose know about steroids anyway? Wasn't he always either on the field or calling his bookie?

May 31, 2008  09:58 AM ET

Pete, my brother, ypu gots to play this cool...steroids make bettin people like yourself look better keep your mouth shut and they be forgettin bout your mistakes and maybe let your old ass in the hall

Imagine the money he could have made! Then maybe he wouldn't have to set up a little table every year down the road from Cooperstown while the real Hall of Famers are inducted!

I guess that's the old fashioned way of making money.

Ar ar. Good one.

Pete Rose, you don't get to comment on anything baseball related. You tainted yourself. Shut up and go away.

May 31, 2008  10:17 AM ET

Good for you Pete. Then you could be the only player with 5,000 hits not in the Hall of Fame.

May 31, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Take it easy on Pete. There are many more people in professional sports that did way worse things than Pete. He messed up - get over it. The fact remains that he would walk through hell in a gasoline suit to beat you and he did beat you... he beat everyone in the history of the world that has ever picked up a baseball bat. His betting on the game has nothing to do with this story so why even commet on it.

Let this guy into the Hall Of Fame.

May 31, 2008  11:11 AM ET

It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Moral Behavior.

EVERYONE should be judged on their numbers, nothing else. Bonds, Clemens, etc. should all be first ballot. No one can ever say with any certainty what their #'s would have been without steroids, so it simply can't be part of the equation.

May 31, 2008  11:28 AM ET

The way things are going with reasons for keeping players out of the Hall of Fame, soon there won't be anyone left who deserves to be there.

May 31, 2008  11:46 AM ET

Can't hate him for telling the truth.

May 31, 2008  11:58 AM ET

Would you have kept that awful haircut if you took 'roids??

CRUEL BUT VERY FUNNY!!!!!!!

May 31, 2008  12:38 PM ET

Pete was a great hitter but he always seemed to come across as a pretty dumb fellow !!

"Good for you Pete. Then you could be the only player with 5,000 hits not in the Hall of Fame."

nice

May 31, 2008  02:05 PM ET

Pete deserves to be in the hall of fame.

betting to win on ur team... pfffft

so?

Pete Rose is baseball!

May 31, 2008  02:26 PM ET

He placed bets on his team as a manager not as a player. Charlie Hustle belongs in the Hall of Fame. Make it happen commissioner.

May 31, 2008  03:26 PM ET

when,if whenever ,did it become conclusive ,that steroids, improve your eyesight??
Pete, these things,if you took(????) f up your thinking capacity.
You probably would have done 10,000 women like Wilt too, you self centred s.o.b.

May 31, 2008  03:33 PM ET

People....they had steroids back in the 70's.....so guess what? They be doing them too back then. Pete plays with his own head. I need media attention, where's my mommy?

Looks like somebody's a Pete Rose supporter.
