Mike Vanderjagt is returning to the Canadian Football League because of his love for the City of Toronto and the Argonauts, Sportsnet.ca learned in an exclusive interview with the high-profile punter/place kicker. And he insisted he is not coming back hoping to use it to return to the National Football League, in which he played from 1998 to halfway through the 2006 and had would best be described as bittersweet success. Vanderjagt, who starred for Toronto as a punter/place kicker in their Grey Cup-winning years in 1996-97, is scheduled to sign with the team on Sunday or Monday.

I was at the Cowboys/Colts game two years ago and, when a commercial came on with him in it, the booing was so loud you had to cover your ears. I got the impression he wasn't lilked in Dallas. Lol!!

I hope he demands that they pay him in Canadian Dollars. The hockey players that demanded American dollars are taking a financial beating..

June 1, 2008  09:10 AM ET

Who recalls him saying he wasn't a big Colts fan right now and suggested that the Colts won't go far in the postseason because Manning and coach Tony Dungy were too laid back...

how's the cfl?

This guy didn't sign with the Agos because he loves Totonto. He signed with Toronto because they have a domed stadium and he is a partner with Donovan Bailey in a string of sports bars in the Toronto area. The Argos trade an excellent kicker/punter (Noel Prefontaine) to make room for him. I hope they end up regretting it.

Will he be all liquored up?

June 1, 2008  10:54 AM ET

He signed because no one wants his A*S in the NFL.

I bet he can get a chance to kick in the NFL again. Just look at his stats. You don't have to like him but he can kick and over his career he is one of the best kickers.

This stupid Vanderjagt comment brought to you by... Molson Canadian.

I hope he has blown all of his money thus far.

June 1, 2008  01:15 PM ET

I wonder how many NFL offers he turned down to play for the Canada Dry.

June 1, 2008  02:47 PM ET

Awesome! Now he can share a hookah with Ricky!

Dude, Canada isn't a bad place at all. In fact, it's a great place for women: many are model-class and their morals are more like Sweden's that the US's. (Western Canada is better than eastern, though.) Beer's better too. It's true that people mostly suck, but you can get satellite anywhere on earth now.

June 1, 2008  02:56 PM ET

canada is okay in small doses. its really only better because george bush isn't there

June 1, 2008  03:33 PM ET

Love of the Argos? C'mon! Gimme a break!

We all know why you're going North of the border!
Two reasons:
1) YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO STICK IN THE NFL!!
2) THEIR BALLS ARE BIGGER!

June 1, 2008  05:01 PM ET

I was mostly kidding. (But Canadian women are awesome.)

It's safe to say the deafening boos were due to a mutual hate of him between the Colts and 'Boys fans. He did repeatedly throw Peyton under the bus while he was a Colt.

Vander is the greatest player in the history of sport. If you don't believe it, ask him yourself. Then ask him if he is the biggest **** bag in the history of ****.

The only reason to go to Canada is to get the old 5 gallon toilets!
